Mr. Hanfland once said, “I hope that being a teacher, in some small way, makes a difference for the better.” Mr. Hanfland is a Social Studies teacher at Marlowe Middle School. He is 44 years old and has a family of his own and is married. He has participated in many organisations and has done many things to help other people. In these ways, Mr. Hanfland achieved greatness and therefore, deserves the Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Hanfland has been a positive influence on many people and is optimistic. According to Mr. Hanfland, his first principal gave him great advice. “Who you are as a person is the most valuable thing you have to share with your students. Teaching comes in many forms and the best lessons are not coming out of the books.” Some students say that he is a positive influence on them because he explains the importance of history. “He has taught me the importance of learning the history of the world and he has positively influenced me in this way. Hanfland has achieved many goals of his. He states that he likes to make goals in three areas. Physical goals, spiritual goals, and intellectual goals. He has current goals under all of these categories. For example, he states that he has an intellectual goal to complete his reading list that he compiled a few summers ago. He also has a physical goal to be able to walk a marathon distance in one day by this summer and a spiritual goal to spend more time in prayer. He has also reached many of his past goals. He has adventures, had a family, and much more. “I have been doing a job I love for 17 years. I found love, got married and have a family. I have been on adventures that have taken me down rivers, up mountains, paddled across lakes and biked across states. I remember most days to be thankful for these blessings and so many more.
