The original name of my magazine is Social Purpose. It will focus on events in Canada that occur in the hopes of enriching the lives of the people who live here. This might include protests, charity events, major community events, or other occurrences intended to benefit local, or possibly marginalised, populations. Volunteer opportunities related to these types of events will also be covered, so that people who feel moved to do so have some ideas about how they can get involved in important issues affecting their communities and do some good. The target audience of my magazine are community-minded 20-35 year olds who are interested in living a socially useful lifestyle. Highlighting its goal of inciting community involvement, the mission statement of Social Purpose is ‘Spreading the power of working with one accord. Together everyone achieves more.’ This mission statement also speaks to the interest of readers of Social Purpose in self-identifying as socially-minded individuals who are actively engaging with those around them for the public good. The hard news value of this publication is that it informs people about issues and initiatives that are related to the wellbeing of society. It also educates them about events that they might want to attend, or ways that they can get involved in initiatives should they feel inclined to do some local good, and provides examples of the magic that can happen when people come together to help each other, possibly inspiring them to do so more often as they realise the impact their actions could have. The content will focus on what’s going on, who’s doing food, how readers can get involved, results of events that were successful in the recent past, profiles on the people who have been helped and the impact the help has had on them, and also raising awareness of issues that could do with more attention.
