Portrayal of Minorities in the Media
In the media for several centuries, minorities have been either under-represented or presented in a way that would abash them. While it is evident at first glance why a degeneracy such as that is unacceptable, its damage reaches further than most would inherently assume. Gender roles, race, and religious discrimination are prevalent in media sources such as magazines, T.V., and even movies. The way minorities are presented in the media requires revision because it not only reflects the racist, misogynistic, and closed-minded views of society at large but it is detrimental to the confidence of said minorities and provides a tainted image for those in our society that are not yet corrupted.

Gender roles today are being changed, mixed, and overall eliminated. With each passing generation lines blur. Men can wear heels stylishly and women can wear haircuts that may have once been attributed to a man confidently. Still today, though, there are those who have outdated views on what roles each gender should play. Commercials direct cleaning appliances at women and power tools toward men. If you pay attention you will see that in most paper towel commercials the person who comes in and sees the mess, then proceeds to clean it up is the mother or a woman. Doing a Google search finds you myriad confused results that only succeed in discrediting one another. We can’t find a woman who the world considers “the smartest” on Google, but with a search we can easily find the most good looking.
