Psychiatrists are medical doctors that specialize in treatment of mental disorders. They are primary mental health-care givers. They diagnose and treat mental illnesses through a combination of psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, institutionalization, and medication. Psychiatrists help their patients find solutions to their problems through changes in their behavioral patterns, exploring past experiences, etc. Psychiatrists can work in a variety of environments. Some may work with elderly patients, others may work in the courts and criminal justice system, others may work in laboratory environments for research purposes and some may work in behavioral health hospitals or institutions with the patients.
