McClintock (2004) states, Scholar practitioner is committed to the well-being of clients and colleagues. Moreover, he emphasized that scholar-practitioners require unique understanding, knowledge and perspective through effective interrelations within the communities of practice. Capella’s scholar-practitioner learning model focuses on education identity, trainings, group knowledge, theory, application,and analyzing. Others call for a practice that is informed by both practitioner and by EBP research and disagree that the transfer of knowledge is one way only from academics to practitioners and from science to practice thereby relegating practitioners to mere research consumers or form fillers. They instead propose a more hybridized approach to practice-research integration constructed around a problem-solving approach where researchers and practitioner’s, retrospective and prospective researchers, interpretavists and experimentalists and everyone in between have knowledge contributions to make (Gredig & Sommerfeld, 2008).
The occupations that I have chosen to analyze using the three elements for this assignment are paraprofessional, what I am currently, and a teacher, what I am going to college to become. Teachers and paraprofessionals work side by side, collaborate, plan, and share many of the same experiences. However, paraprofessionals are often not treated as equals and has created some ethical judgement regarding treatment of the paraprofessionals from other teachers and administrators in the business of education. They are very similar to Psychologist but they also have a few key differences that not many people know. If you have not taken a psychology class or had some kind of interaction with either of the two then I’m sure you would be confused. I am one of those people who like to question why someone thinks or does something and what they are thinking when they do it. When I think of stuff like that it just makes me get really excited. Another benefit of being a practitioner scholar is that you are knowledgeable in the field. I currently work in a call center environment and it’s important to be knowledgeable, people want to know that you are able to provide accurate information and sound confident in doing so. Being a practitioner scholar in this field of psychology is the same. In order to guide people in the right direction in a counseling section, you want to know what you are speaking about and sound confident when you are speaking about it.
In order to become a research psychologist, it is necessary to have the proper knowledge about the human brain and the career itself to be able to understand the full extent of the research he or she is doing. With this in mind, it is important to have the right degrees needed to enter this career field, as it is stated by the Arizona Career Information System, that research psychologists must attain not only a master’s degree but also a PhD (“Psychologists”). Attaining these degrees would be fairly difficult considering the amount of hours and time one has to give up, which would replace any free time previously granted to the individual. These degrees will not be beneficial in just the psychology field, but they are also important for many other careers if one feels the desire to switch to another field. However the institution must be willing to support mentorship programs. For educational institutes and clinical practice settings mutual partnerships regarding co-operation and support are needed to develop the capability of the mentor to provide effective mentorship to mentees (Jokelainen et al., 2013). Jokelainen et al. (2013) suggests the mentor know the curriculum which will ensure consistency. One drawback was a lack of partnerships made between educational institutes and clinical practice placements, collaborative partnerships are needed (Jokelainen et al., 2013). Educational and clinical institutions should be providing peer-review process of the mentor’s capabilities, along with proper support, adequate preparation. These actions will strengthen the motivation of the mentor to the student’s. Unit staff should be involved in partnership collaboration with the mentorship program to equip students with the necessary tools to acquire competent nursing skills. Practice behavior 1.2 focuses on using reflection and self-regulation to manage personal values and maintain professionalism in practice situations.
