They say life is like a box of chocolate, and while we never know what we are going to get, sometimes, what one gets just is not fair. Good fortune follows those who are good, obey the rules, and comply. But in this case study, It Isn’t Fair, we meet Mary who some would say that unfortunately has been handed the short end of the stick. Mary is described as a college graduate who has graduated top one percent of her class and was liked by all her professors. She was also involved in many extracurricular activities. Her strong commitments to her academic and employment career were very evident in everything she attempted and accomplished.

She moves on to say how flabbergasted and grateful she was to receive such a high raise knowing employees usually get a lower percentage. On that note she leaves the office with a smile from ear to ear.
Ironically, she ran into Sue, a coworker who was just hired not so long ago. Sue wonders why Mary was so happy. Mary went to tell Sue she just had her review and how great the process was and how rewarding it all is. Sue moved on to agree, saying “You can say that again! I couldn’t believe them hiring me right out of college at such a good salary, 45,000.” And with that Mary walked away disappointed leaving Sue with words in her mouth.
Both Mary and Sue made a common mistakes, talking about salary in the workplace. Poor Mary was truly distraught for the rest of her day, she went from having the best day ever to feeling crushed that she had been hired with a lower salary than Sue. Being that she is a very intelligent individual, I believe she took the fact that she learned about her co-workers salary to a competitive market. A place of employment should be ones career and is a lifelong attribute that one should work at to be sure that one is successful, and not a race to beat the
