Every country believes themselves to be above all others. America, especially, has this mindset. But is is possible to live in a utopian-like country? Of course, it is hard to say what country is globally supreme in the lives of the people and in international power. One thing that stands out in all countries in the world that are considered great is that they have laws that are only beneficial to the country and to their people; laws that are fair and just in their proclamations. Man should have rights in any country, but some of the most important ones should be the ones that make men equal. The recognition that all men are created equal is important to every super-power. This includes freedom of religion, speech, freedom of press and assembly. This right is almost essential to a country that is truly powerful. Without this right in particular, the people have no true say of their own ideas and beliefs. That can tear a country down. There are examples of this throughout history. Very prominent ones are times when the Roman Catholic church had an extremely copious amount of power. They outlawed writings that were against their own beliefs and teachings. This led to many famous stories, such as Martin Luther posting the 95 theses on the door of the Roman Church. Galileo was also persecuted by the church for teaching his ideas of how the universe works, which was a heliocentric view. He was banned from teaching any long and furthermore banned from continuing the research he was conducting. Today, it is common knowledge that we do indeed revolve around the sun. Should laws such as the ones in Galileo’s time still be in effect all around the world today, the pursuit of art and knowledge would abate significantly. The church also denied the freedom of religion, which caused uprisings and many, many deaths. There were and are wars fought over religion, the most famous being the Crusades. One of the most famous phrases that Americans say in relation to the people’s power (or the over power of government) is, “We the people…” The people need to have power over the government so that they should not become insignificant. The government should, in turn, make laws that are helpful to the people and improve their quality of life. An example of a government that is all-powerful in their country is North Korea. They are essentially ruled by a single leader, Kim Jong Un, who has a very militaristic idea for their country, as they continue to work on and test nuclear bombs, although they are restricted from it by the countries of the world.
