Lunch is our daily power ups throughout the day. It keeps us energized and it gives us a new boost of energy when we’re feeling down. Lunch time is different for everyone, so why should we all be forced to eat at the same time? We’re not clones, we’re human individuals! One school rule that the principal should change is to allow the students to eat whenever they want because they can eat more comfortably and they won’t have to wait for hours to eat lunch. If we can have the privilege to eat whenever we want, then we can eat more relaxed and comfortably. School is supposed to be a place where students can relax and mingle with their friends, but our lunch schedule is going against that idea. Instead of eating and having fun with friends, …show more content…
Whenever I’m in lunch, I feel out of place with everyone, even though I’m with my friends most of the time. Sometimes I feel so pressured that I just lose my appetite and don’t eat at all. Not only that, but whenever I sit down or walk anywhere, there are always eyes on me and I feel like they’re judging me. So how can our principal and teachers say that students are comfortable and relaxed throughout the day when we don’t even feel that way for thirty minutes? However, if we can choose when we eat, it would be a different story. We would feel comfortable and positive because we would be doing it on our own terms. Not only that, but we can also relieve our stress from day to day schedules because our brain and body are relaxed. The principal might say that if we get this privilege, we could get carried away with the freedom that it gives us. However, that is not the case because we’ll feel more positive and recharged for the rest of our daily tasks for school. We need to feel good in order to do good and this could be the first step. Another reason why we should be allowed to eat lunch whenever we want is so that we won’t have to wait hours to actually eat. Sure, we have vending
Lunch time is a time to take a break from the day and recharge for the rest of the day. In elementary schools it is also a time to meet up with your friends and socialize. Lunch time is not only time to eat. It is important for the mental, social, and emotional health of the children as well. Children need them chance to unwind and destress, which is promoted by socializing with friends. “Lunch should be an enjoyable part of the school day for students, offering a break from classroom work and a place to relax, socialize, and become nourished.”("The Cafeteria: Creating a Positive Mealtime Experience", 2013) Lunch time should be done in a setting where
Wandering kids. Bumper to bumper traffic. Drug dealing. Is this the picture drawn when local students have fifty minutes of freedom during lunch to do whatever they please? Students should not be allowed to leave their school campus during lunch. An open campus would lead to truancy, disturb local businesses and neighborhoods, and cause crime.
For the majority of high school students having the option to go home for lunch or to go somewhere to eat would be the ultimate dream. High school students do not think about the dangers and worry that open campus lunch would cause for staff and parents. They do not think about the small sum of students who would spend that time doing drugs or making messes at local businesses. There would also be an amount of students who would not return, or they may be late returning to school due to traffic at fast food places. Faculty would also have the fret of an increase of car accidents caused from the limited time students would have to go wherever and get back before their next class. On the other hand, students would learn responsibilities and time management. Parents would be forced to give their children money to eat out. Along with the money on their school lunch accounts, or they would be apart of the free lunch school program. Schools cannot have open campus lunches
This will give us the extra push that's needed so the lunch expansion won't be a problem. You’ll still be getting your education and also being provided with more than enough time to devour your delicious lunch meals. Teachers may think this is a great idea. However, students will not want to read a book or do any assignments in this period of time. The hour of lunch should be about eating and eating only. Reading a book will not harm you what so ever. It will only make you better.
...ars of school. Once kids eat their lunches they normally want to go run around and use some of that energy from the food so they can concentrate better in class. It is also a good thing to require because school gym is the only exercise most teens and children get throughout the day. It helps cut the growing rate of diabetes and obesity. Sports are also a good way to stay active and healthy. Not only are you constantly moving and getting tons of exercise, but sports teams normally offer a good healthy snack after games such as peanut butter crackers and juice boxes or nutrition bars and bottled water. It all makes a huge difference in the development of children and teens. If we take these small steps to change, we can easily redirect the lives of children and teens health. Having more nutritious lunches can have a positive impact on the health of American teens.
We should not have longer school lunches. Longer school lunches has a great impact on everyone in school, it makes this issue worse. Students need what is best for them, which they already have. Short school lunches helps improve learning skills and lets students comprehend better. Our lunches are good as they are right now. We should not allow students to leave during school lunch.
The only way anyone would be allowed off campus is if they had a note from their parents or they called in with an exceptional reason, which is a custom rule in many schools around the nation. The part that is unfair is that no one is even allowed off campus at lunch. This is the part that many students object to and the reason the rule is so dreaded. Some say that they need closed campus for safety. In an article from the New York Times, Mr. Ivan Toper, the principal at White Plains High School, says, “the cafeteria was big enough to accommodate the students remaining on campus.” Mr. Toper goes on to say and, in this case, side with concerning parents, ''Your concerns with their safety against their need for freedom and responsibility.” Some big schools with huge safety issues may very well need the rule because of possible violence within the school and sometimes people come onto campus that aren't students. Another reason schools want to enforce the rule is to reduce car accidents during lunch. Many students are at the age where they can drive and some are still at a young age where they walk. If people who work and takes their cars or even walk to the nearest food stop, what makes people think students couldn't handle it? If anyone thinks that a closed campus rule would stop these people from being rebellious, they are highly mistaken. The morality of this is most people won't have school spirit even with closed campus; they'll be too busy dreading the fact that they have to stay at
Allowing healthier school lunches will decrease obesity in children because it will give them the proper nutrition to reduce the risk of health issues. Since obesity causes many health issues, maintaining a proper nutrition will reduce the risk of health issues. According to Star- Telegram, a daily newspaper that serves Fort Worth and areas of North Texas states, “[School lunches that have] a meal of pizza sticks, a banana, raisins and whole milk has given way to whole wheat spaghetti with meat sauce, a whole wheat roll green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, kiwi and low-fat milk … This change will help more than 2.4 million Texas students who receive a free or reduced- price school lunch to lead healthier, more active lives—in and out of the classroom”(Par. 2 and 4). School lunches are supposed to guarantee students a well balance meal, so they can have the energy to proceed with their classes throughout the day. Meanwhile, students who receive a f...
To solve this problem, we need the cafeteria to be open more hours. If it is because of the need of workers in those other times, it is a big change that even students won't mind to work in the cafeteria to have it open for longer hours. Another idea would be to have longer hours open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Even if it is not open for the whole day, longer hours might allow more comfort ability for everyone. We know that with out food, one cannot concentrate in their studies, nor perform their work well.
Many cafeteria workers and staff members in 49 states have said many students do not want the governments new school lunches. Almost 7 out of 17 schools with have been seen with students throwing away some or all their fruits or vegetables, even the cafeteria workers are suffering under these new standards. About 60.3 percent of school districts want flexibility to be given to all schools to improve their ability to provide and give good nutrition without harm to any instructions and school district operations. Schools should know by now what is good for students and what is not, but they should not go overboard with the wheat and whole grain items. Another example that shows that schools should be responsible for providing a nutritious lunch is knowing that there are a variety of ways to make healthy foods taste good for school students. Healthy tasty food that will risk diabetes and obesity .One of the biggest reasons people do not eat healthy foods is because they feel it as if it will not taste good. The problem is, if your health food does not taste good, you are eating the wrong health food. Just because something is good for you does not mean it has to taste nasty, boring, or completely gross. There are plenty of ideas out there for eating healthy without making sacrifices on taste. “It is silly that people are worried about kids throwing things out. There are many ways to make
Should juniors be able to leave campus during lunch to be able to buy a good meal they actually want to eat? Students do not eat school food because they do not like it. Lunch should be a meal that is delicious, and that people enjoy eating. Lunch should be healthy and enjoyable for the students to eat it and like what they are eating. School food is not healthy because they are high in fat, sugar, and salt. Districts across the country have observed a marked drop in the number of students getting their lunch at the cafeteria. The average daily student participation rate for total lunches served began falling, it has declined by about 1.2 million.” Schools do not give students the choice to eat a meal they actually like. Many students are starving themselves just because the school food is not good or healthy. Students cannot focus in class with an empty stomach. A student can get a good meal from a restaurant near by the school in order, so they
The lack of health standards for lunches and other foods in schools are a leading cause of obesity in children. According to studies, children who eat school lunches consume forty more calories each day compared to those who bring their own lunches (Schanzenbach 703). Elizabeth Jackson, a medical doctor at the University of Michigan Health System, reported that children who eat school lunches are over two times more likely to eat fattier foods and more sugary drinks (“Children”). In the past decades, the government has attempted to develop effective lunch programs that limit the intake of unhealthy foods that children eat. The 1995 policy, “School Meals Initiative for Healthy Children,” required school lunches to meet one-third of the recommended number of calories, protein, and certain vitamins and minerals (Schanzenbach 686). Although this policy has been put into place, the government has not enforced it well enough. According to a recent study, only six percent of U.S. schoo...
In other words, the food is not delicious and there are not many choices. Also, when children don’t get proper nutrition, they have trouble focusing on school. Most students do not buy lunch because they feel it is unappealing and do not like the food served. Many students go to other kids and ask for food. In addition, many students do not eat breakfast, so they rely on lunch to fuel them for the day.
Why is this a problem? Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, more advanced lunch system should be implemented. First of all, students aren’t motivated to eat unhealthy, not-tasty food.
We should be able to eat and/or drink in class, what we want, when we want. The main reason I feel this particular way, is because there’s no reason a person should have to go eight in the morning or before until noon or after without eating or drinking something. (If you are in high school, that is). Another one of the main reasons I feel this way is because some kids have problems involving food, such as diabetes. Another possible problem might be hypoglycemia, which, in fact, I have. Hyperglycemia is another major problem in this world. I also believe that students can focus and learn more on a full stomach. Not just because I am, in fact, a student, but because I have been in the situation where I’m hungry and I can’t concentrate on anything, except my stomach and it’s cravings for food.
