Luhrmann’s creative sense of putting the song Young and Beautiful is what made the film wonderful to watch because of the way it sound and the flow that it had through the film, but many people might disagree with the way he did it and of using the same artist and song through each scene.
The mixture of modern music and Jazz influenced Luhrmann’s film The Great Gatsby. He wanted to show the audience the true feeling of what was going on with Gatsby, Nick, Daisy, and other characters that were involved in the film. In addition, he used the same songs through almost every scene but extended the song, which effected greatly because it made you feel drawn to what they were thinking, doing, and what they wanted to say to each other. Bringing modern music into a movie based off the 1920’s works perfectly together, it exaggerates what the 20’s was like in modern day people’s eyes. Therefore, using modern music sets the mood for the entire movie and gives you a completely different feeling for each scene in the movie, whether it was Gatsby and Nick going into New York, etc. Using modern music brings life to what the 1920’s was like in Luhrmann’s film. Because if he just used classical jazz in every scene it would not be as exciting or memorable like how Scott Fitzgerald felt like the 20’s were. Using this modern song makes you feel the love and the happiness that Daisy and Gatsby felt together, the song was in the film perfectly through the scenes. In addition, Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey made the love scenes a lot more appealing to the film. The song really effected The Great Gatsby because it made the emotions feel real to how they felt about each other, and this appeared to what Fitzgerald was trying to get at in his book as well. Young and Beautiful was a song that made the audience want to know more about how Gatsby and Daisy fell in love before he went away, it persuaded us to look into their relationship a lot deeper than one could
