Dick Spencer is faced with multiple issues. The difficulty and complexity of these issues are caused by a variety of factors. The three most critical issues faced are leadership issues within the company, communication and managerial support. A discussion of these factors and recommendations regarding what actions Dick Spencer could take, serves as the foundation for this case analysis.
The first factor that is playing an influential role in Dick Spencer’s decision making is that there isn’t any managerial support with any decisions made. Having managerial support is important to a successful business. Without having managerial support, this gives the employees no type of direction on what to do or what they can do. There is a study (e.g., Rooney, J., & Gottlieb, B. 2009) that has shown that there are employees that are more likely to prefer and benefit from a management style that encourages employee for their participation within the company and support their ideas over having to keep their ideas to themselves. When there isn’t any support from your manager, this causes the employees to keep to themselves and not let management know when there are any issues or if they have any ideas that could possibly bring improvements to the company as a whole.
There are multiple effects that can happen when there isn’t any managerial support. There is strain of working that will cause physical and emotional symptoms that can possibly make it difficult for employees to perform well at their daily tasks. There is a loss of confidence in the work that they perform. When having these issues, this brings on stress for that employee. Stress is handled differently by everyone. Different symptoms that stress brings on are fatigue, aches, diff...

...improvement. With working within this type of atmosphere, this definitely decreases the staff morale. This brings on a negative atmosphere within the company which brings on stress and performance decrease.
With lacking leadership within the company, this means that the employees have little control over time management. This gives the employees lack of commitment to their work and the hours that they put in. It also means that the employee doesn’t know their deliverables or expectations of them. Based on a study (e.g., Palmer, 2009) has shown that 60% of businesses site leadership as the skill they need to develop in order to drive their business forward. Some other effects from lack of communication come to lack of distributing orders or tasks, showing employees the company’s policies and rules, setting goals for each employee and help motivate the employees.
The next problem is an Autocratic Leadership. In an autocratic leadership employees have no say. All decisions are made by the management. This is a problem because even though management may know what is best for the company, they do not know what is best for the employees. They should listen to the employee’s ideas and not dismiss them immediately. (toolbox, Leadership Styles: Autocratic leadership)
In a firm, management and leadership are important and needed. Leadership and management are similar. Actually, leadership and management are totally different. The leadership would influence the firm. The leader would have difference leadership styles to lead the subordinate.
Leadership directly impacts an organization's bottom line, employee satisfaction, and turnover; it can impact how the organization is viewed by society and in particular its marketing audience. This is particularly significant during a downturn in economic markets. Organizations must meet budgetary controls, and need to communicate...
The main component of an organization is people. A team of people work together to achieve the common goal of the organization. For an organization to operate successfully it must have a vision, policies, procedures and governance. Each of these four items are determined, implemented and overseen by the leaders of the organization. Leadership is an important part of each phase of an organization beginning with the start of the organization and continuing until the disbanding of the organization. Since leadership of an organization has a strong impact on every organization it is often researched in the study of organizational behavior (OB) (Kreitner & Kinick, 2014).
The company has a clear lack of vision. This is because since the loss of Mr. McFettridge, the vision and plans he had are not known to anyone. This exposes the lack of structured top management. Also, the top management is having a lot of young employees which are accustomed to doing a clerical job. Their decision making skills are not developed due to improper mentoring. The work processes are more individual driven then system driven.
Within leadership, there is the opportunity for many issues in itself. Leadership styles and practices, one of the most vital aspects determining productivity in organizations, is truly what sets the standard for every level of management within a company. If a proper leadership style is not chosen and followed to lead a team within an organization, there will be no one to follow and the team will certainly not be successful. The repercussions of poor leadership will certainly make a drastic difference in a company. This can include the needs of not only employees, but
Leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organization. Leadership is leading a group of people or company to reach a result or further and the organization. A leader is supposed to be an example of how all employees are expected to act and what they should be striving for. Good leaders also don’t use their position within a company to take advantage of the company and its employees. A good leader is supposed to be able to perform their job with high standards, efficiency, and honor. However, for every good leader, there are bad leaders and the worse the leader the more detrimental he or she becomes to employees and the company they run. Poor leadership skills can ultimately ruin a company 's chance of success. The attitude
”Leadership involves the exhibition of style or behavior by managers or supervisors while dealing with subordinates; leadership is a critical determinant of the employees ' actions toward the achievement of the organizational goals” (Saeed, Almas, Anis-ul-Haq, & Niazi, 2014). Leadership is a strength that initiates, inspires, and guides the cooperation and attitudes of others on the way to set vision. Leadership is influential and involves several styles of approaches that involve trust, accomplishment and focus to reach a projected result. Using and implementing the ideas of others motivates new thinking and gains the confidence to build the trust and encourage everyone to work to the same goals (Northouse,
Chan, K. W. & Maubourgne, R. A. 1992, Parables of leadership, Harvard Business Review, July-August.
Communication and leadership go hand in hand. We all communicate daily and communication is a major part of our day. Sargent (2016) discussed how the leadership style of his supervisor relates to her communication style, which has affected his department in a negative way causing lowered productivity. Communication from a supervisor is so important to the success of a team.
Organizations have leaders who are effective and ineffective. Many of us want to be leaders but, do we have what it takes to be effective or are we going to be ineffective. Leaders are people who build their organization and employees up. Ineffective leaders are those who only care about getting a check. This paper will discuss effective and ineffective leaders. The effective and ineffective leaders I have had the pleasure to work with.
Leadership, without doubt, is a significantly important function of management. It helps to aggrandize efficiency and to fulfil an organization’s goals. Leadership is the ability of a manager to induce the subordinates to work with confidence, determination, courage and zeal. It is also defined as ability to influence a group towards the realization of a goal. Leaders should have the capability of developing future visions, and to drive the organizational members to want to attain the visions. This paper states my points in which I duly believe, justifies the importance of an outstanding leader in any organization.
Communication is a very important aspect in leadership. It involves the ability of managers and other leaders in an organization to engage employees through effective listening and understanding of any issues that may be making it difficult for them to realize their full potential. The need for good communication capabilities in the workplace is to make sure that leaders give employees enough time to air their opinions before any binding directions are made. It is always necessary for leaders to remain mindful of the manner in wh...
A business short of leadership often fails and has no chance of survival. An organisation with no leader is like “an army without generals”. A leader can make an organisation successful or break it depending on the skills they have. An expert in leadership warren Bennis said, on capital can borrow money and one with poor location can move to point b “A business short on leadership has little chance of survival”.
Employees from his department have complained about the rudeness and controlling attitude demonstrated on a daily basis, causing a high turnover rate. Jack’s leadership style has been described as “old school” while reflecting an “it’s my way or the highway attitude. Not only have the employees from his department made several complaints, however, his aggressive and controlling personality has affected several employees from outside of his department. He is known to be bossy and rude and does not like for others to contribute their ideas in any fashion. Employees have made complaints of being belittled by him and it has been reported that he speaks negatively about his staff with other
