The bass of terrible music caused the floor to shudder beneath me. My eyes drifted around as I quietly made my way through the obstacles of girls’ sleepover bags and their dancing forms. A couple girls bumped against me in their rush to get to the kitchen, where Jyl had laid out a couple of beverages. I sighed quietly as Becky yelled for everyone to take out their cameras to remember the night. She was already on the verge of being wasted for the night. The smell of alcohol was pungent on her breath. I fumbled in the tan messenger bag which always hung over my shoulder for the polaroid camera which Chloe had given me a couple months before she died. The decorational birds hung from the ceiling like they were flying through the night sky of
The warm wind blew my hair back, while I listened to the chatter and thumps from the steps on the wooden walkway. Car horns occasionally sounded as they passed by up the road. Colorful sail boats provided a picturesque background. Paris had his camera wrapped around his neck and was focused on the glowing sunset. We sat on a black swinging chair, facing the rippling water that held the sunset’s warm reflection. Paris scrolled through the pictures on his black professional camera.
A chromatic sunset of oranges, pinks, and grays surrounds a dot of a sun. After my eyes adjust to the new hue of colors, the black silhouette of a dock, an umbrella located at the far end of the dock, and a boat fastened by its whips appear. There is no writing on the white of the Polaroid, no date to mark its significance, no similar photo beside it to justify its belonging. As silent and aware as an art connoisseur walking towards the next piece in a gallery, I trace my finger down the string of lights to the next Polaroid. “New Years Eve 2014” has been scrawled in sharpie at the base of the photo. Above it is a golden retriever on a rug. Why was this photo here? How come there was no order for these photos? I move on to the next photo
Underage drinking is a critical issue which can lead to severe consequences. These consequences have the potential to haunt someone throughout his or her life and lead to an unfortunate outcome for everyone involved. It is not uncommon that those in stressful circumstances turn to drinking as a therapeutic solution to their problems. Although many may think alcohol is a remedy to the everyday stressors of life, the results of actions taken while under the influence can be detrimental. In Brenda’s life, these everyday stressors include the relationship with her mother and the movement of her family to Westport, New York. In Vivian Vande Velde’s “Drop by Drop,” the adversity within Brenda’s family dynamic contributes
Mrs. Kelly is a 42-year-old female here today complaining of a lump in her left armpit.
My roommate spends every spring break at Rocky Point and comes back with several horror stories, which means in a way, I understand your pain. Your last sentence made me chuckle, because from the sound of it, Mexico won. The last sentence would actually be a great hook for the beginning of your story. You clearly had many different adventures during Mexico; you honestly could talk about one story and expand on that. In the first paragraph, you had to talk yourself out of being arrested, which is a great hook, especially since you are (from what I assume), not from Mexico, which gives you a unique perspective with boarder patrol. However, I never hear more about that story throughout the text. Obviously, you used persuasion to avoid the ticket,
It was the beginning of the school year. All the students of Sublette Elementary were buzzing to get in there spots in our classroom. The principal had made an announcement that we were going to get a visitor! So,the teachers asked us to put our stuff away and get to the gym. When we were passing by everyone ,through the hallway windows our class saw a limo.It was black and polished it was so,buetiful ! When we got to the gym. The students saw Taylor Swift on the stage! She was wearing a glittery gown with diamond slippers. Her curls were piled up in a perfect bun, too.
I was being held under with no idea when I may get up, getting tumbled and dragged along the ocean floor. Each chance I pop up and gasp for another breath of air another wave crashes on me causing me to choke on the salt from the ocean. This has been my experience in high school, and once I am graduated it will feel like I can finally catch my breath and ride that first wave.
Tweet! The sound of the whistle rang through all of the ears in the gym. Sweat was dripping down my back my headband was soaked and my knees felt like toothpicks about to snap. I ran over to net, head pounding. High fiving hand after hand. We had just one our Championship Qualifier. I dried of with a old rag on the sidelines. I was parched had a pounding headache my stomach was still nervous but I managed to start warming up. I caught a glance of our competition “Kokoro”. Every single one of them towered us. One of them reminding me of a praying mantis about to bite the head off of their prey. Bang. Bang. Shots were fired. (not literally) The ball kept smacking the floor as the hit the ball. We started our warm up. Our minds were ready
My life intersects with Into The Wild because I never had a good relationship with my mom or stepfather Dan who was 21 years older than my mother. So I “escaped” to Columbia much like Chris did from his own reality. Dan would drink every day; you would rarely see him without a drink in his hand. His drink of choice would be either whiskey or beer depending on what he could afford. You could always tell when he was smashed and when he was I was the person he wanted to tear down with his words the most. I remember one night after my grandma just had surgery and she was staying with us my mom asked me to cook. I told her I would. I then went outside to check what I was grilling and I knew Dan was out there intoxicated.
The powerful Irkalla class warship cruised easily through the vacuum of space, passing by a nearby White dwarf, the glaring white paint upon its blackened hull bearing the words ‘The Sutherland’ came into view as the weaponry along the beaten and bruised craft bristled menacingly yet at the same time with a deadly beauty. As it passed the star, light began to shine through the darkened, grimy windows into large empty halls. Inside, Argyll stirred uneasily in his bed, knocking the sheets off and jolting upright while panting heavily as a cold sweat ran across his body. Argyll was a tall and well-structured male, who looked around uneasily as he slowly let out a sigh before closing his eyes as he slowly rested his head on his hands, shaking violently. He began to run his hands through his long, unkempt hair breathing in the, metallic air as he kept his eyes shut tight. Hell. This is the one word the marine
Flashing orange text on the black screen of the overhead time chart is a reminder that my ride will arrive in precisely three minutes. The white letters on the train stop sign read "Neureut Kirchfeld", reminding me once more of where I am. I am an exchange student in Karlsruhe, a German city of over 300,000 residents. It is early July and I am on my way to school. My normal is about three thousand miles away, but my peace of mind and happiness are right in front of me in the form of yellow street cars zooming by, storks gliding through the milky blue sky, and the slow breeze of a summer morning.
Hi, I am Ryan. I am 12 years old, the oldest child in my family. I live on the east coast in Chatham, NJ. I’ve never been to the west coast, but my family and I planned this amazing road trip through Big Sur, California, and I am very excited! I love nature, and from what I’ve heard from friends, Big Sur tops the list when it comes to the scenery and natural beauty. There is almost no technology distraction because Big Sur is in the middle of nowhere. I look forward to disconnecting from technology, and spending quality time with my family. One downside is that I am afraid of heights, so I am not entirely sure how driving next to a cliff for hours is actually gonna go. Looking forward to the best driving experience of my life. I just hope I won’t get motion sickness.
Make a wish is impacting kids all around the world, from sending them from disneyland, to making them police officer for the day or helping them meet their icons (favorite Celebrity).
I’d be walking home when the outside rushes up to greet me with all the breathlessness of a Sunday afternoon. There is an unsaid magnificence in how the wind taps against my shoulders like a countermelody, fireflies haloing the honey of lantern light, the sharp glitter of rainfall. Kids bouncing soda cans along the sidewalks. Or sometimes I’d be idling along the small park pond, watching tiny iridescent fish wink across a dark map of water. Look! The burst of emerald here. That silvery-orange over there. And look! There, and there, and there.
We ran around the apartment that night. Our minds clouded with energized excitement and smiles upon our faces. Her mother wasn’t home that night, it was a weekend, so we were being extra loud. Our laughter and shouts were to be clearly heard by the other with purposes of reminding the other of our mission.
