Same-Sex Marriage The United States is known world wide for its civil rights and freedoms. Many Americans are appalled by the idea of same-sex marriages. What?s wrong with the idea of two people who care greatly for one another wanting to spend their lives together? The gay community is misunderstood because many straights are not willing to listen. These individuals would rather just be closed-minded in this situation and reticent to really think about what this means to the gay community and the country.
Homosexual people deserve the same respect, dignity, love, and rights as anyone else. They should not be denied a formal relationship. It is in no way wrong to be gay and people do not recognize the extent of negativity gay or lesbian people must endure. America is the land of the free, but we are not free to marry whoever we want. We are equals in this world despite any race and cultural background we may carry.
Same-sex couples may seem dissimilar from heterosexual couples, however they share similar beliefs. One of the most important values they share are t... ... middle of paper ... ...shed or religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” These laws that support religious beliefs and is against people practicing personal beliefs are contradicting the First Amendment. Same-sex couples have been advocating for their rights for many years. If we are in a democratic society we should not be ignoring them. My recommendation for same-sex marriage is to allow all citizens to be married no matter their sexual preference.
However all of the points may be arguable it still doesn’t change that fact that gay people are humans that love like any other person in this world and should not be excluded from marrying the person that they love. Same sex marriages should not be banned because it is untraditional; but should be recognized like any other marriage involves love and it might be different but we all should be recognized as equals. Same sex marriages should be legalized in all states because everyone has different views on the topic, but happiness makes the world go around amongst other things and no one should be deprived of their happiness no matter their sexual preferences. Same sex marriages should not be banned because it is untraditional; but should be recognized like any other marriage involves love and it might be different but we all should be recognized as equals.
Gay people hear the government talk about civil unions and domestic partnerships everyday being equal to marriage, and that is just completely observed. The gay community is being feed lies. As far as I'm concerned marriage doesn't exist in the gay community. Unfortunately marriage is only recognized between a man and a women. In fact there are states that try recognize same sex relationships, but we do not enjoy the same rights as a hereto married couple at the state level.
Marriage is a union of love, not a union of genders. Same-sex couples should be allowed to publicly celebrate their commitment in the same way as heterosexual couples. It should be legal because the gay community should have the same rights as everyone else does. Many argue that same-sex couples should have the ability as to the same marriage benefits and public acknowledgment enjoyed by heterosexual couples and that banning gay marriage is unconstitutional discrimination. People opposing gay marriage say, “We must protect traditional marriage and the traditional family.” Matthew McTighe of the Mainers United for Marriage debates responds by saying, “Prote... ... middle of paper ... ...g and legalizing gay marriage.
My marriage is not threatened or devalued in any way, shape or form” (Land 31). In conclusion, gay marriage should be allowed in the United States because it supports the idea of equal rights, and it would do no harm to children with homosexual parents, or society. When gays are denied marriage, not only are they denied that right, but many other rights as well. This is completely unacceptable. By making gay marriage legal, the government is setting up a world in which everyone is balanced.
Religion contributes greatly to delineating laws of nature. This implies that as long freedom to practice any form of religion is given, freedom to comfortably exploit sexual orientation off choice must also be guaranteed. Gay marriages does not snatch society of its values as well as the due benefits but contributes to a shift in mind sets of people towards embracing equality that comes with diversity. Therefore, the 21st century democracy presents the world with perfect opportunity to integrate same sex marriages in societies.
Homosexual Marriage Since 1971 when the first same sex couple Richard John Baker and James Michael McConnell applied for a marriage license and were denied in the Baker vs. Nelson ruling, America has been forced to debate whether homosexuals should be allowed to be married even though they are not the classical definition of a couple. There are many opinions about this subject from government officials, religious leaders and even the president of the United States. Homosexuals should be allowed to be married because they need to be treated fairly and equally. Homosexuals have been denied the right to be married because many people feel, "The union of a man and woman is the most enduring human institution, honored and encouraged in all cultures and by every religious faith" (George W. Bush). Since marriage wasn't clearly defined in our Bill of Rights, The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was started.
Our country has decided by passing the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in 1996 that two people of the same gender cannot get married. By taking away this basic civil right, America has defied what our Founding Fathers based our country one, freedom. Homosexuals are allowed to speak freely, to bear arms, to have privacy, to b... ... middle of paper ... ...worst everyday social problem for the openly gay person on a daily basis. Many people would not hire a gay person based on the thought that he can interrupt office peace or cause many problems and tensions between the people that work there. The way most of our society views sexuality is that anything aside from being heterosexual is wrong.
