Islam and Judaism are two very popular religions across the world. They share many of the same basic principles of faith, but are also very different. 1.3 billion people support Islam and 14 million people support Judaism. The basic foundations and structure of the religion are similar in many ways. Islam is the second most popular religion after Christianity. The day of worship for Islam is on Friday. Islam was founded by Muhammad in the 7th century. The religion was founded in the Arabian Peninsula and Mecca. The followers to this religion, are known as Muslims. The first pillar, is called Shahada. This is the profession of faith, and that there is only one God named Allah and that Muhammad is his prophet. The second pillar, is Salat. They have to pray five times a day and when they pray, it is toward the direction of Mecca. The third pillar, is Zakat. This is the Alms giving, where they give to the less fortunate people. The fourth pillar, is Saum. They fast during the month of Ramadan. Ramadan is a month of fasting from dusk to dawn, where they break their fast after the sun goes down. In 2015, Ramadan was from June 17 to July 17. In 2016, it will be from June 6 to July 5. Ramadan is determined due to the crescent of the moon. The fifth pillar, is Hajj. This is the pilgrimage to Mecca. This is a mandatory religious duty that must be carried out sometime in their lifetime. If they don’t reach Mecca, people won’t come after them. The day of worship for Judaism is on Saturday. The followers to this religion, are known as Jews. Judaism was founded by Abraham more than 3500 years ago. It was founded in Israel. Many powerful kings have built jewish temples all over the world to help spread the faith. Judaism has many major beliefs including the 13 principles of faith. The first one is, that God exists. The second one is, that God is unique and one. The third one, is that God is incorporeal. The fourth one, is that God is eternal. The fifth one, is that their prayers should be directed to God and only him. The sixth one, is the words of the prophets are true. The seventh one, is that Moses’ prophecies are true and that Moses was the greatest of the prophets. The eighth one, is that the written and oral Torah was given to Moses. The ninth one, is that there will be no other Torah. The tenth one, is that God knows the thoughts and deeds of men. The eleventh one, is that God will reward the good and punish the wicked. The twelfth one, is the Messiah will come. The final one, is the dead will be resurrected. These are the basic foundations to the Jewish religion. The holy book that the Jewish people follow is called the Torah. The sacred place for the Judaism faith is in synagogues, where they worship their God Yahweh.
