Culture plays a major role in shaping a country or region. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, culture can be defined as “a way of thinking, behaving, or working that exits in a place or organization” (Merriam-Webster, n.d.). As with most countries, Jordan’s culture is built around it geographical territory, economy, military affairs, and religion. Jordan is an Arab Kingdom in Western Asia. The kingdom bordered by Iraq, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. Climate and terrain in Jordan depends on what region of the country you are in, as Jordan is generally divided into three separate regions. Most of the crops grown in Jordan Valley are produced on irrigated land, while the highlands are primarily rain fed. Jordan’s agriculture makes up about 3.3% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) (Jordan in Perspective, 2011). Tourism is becoming one of Jordan’s most important means of revenue. Biblical sites are a major attraction, including the Jordan River - which has traditionally thought to be the baptismal site of Jesus. The Dead Sea and city of Petra are other main attractions, which bring tourists to Jordan. Tourism provides approximately 14% of Jordan’s GDP (Jordan in Perspective, 2011). Industrial revenue generates 30% of the GDP for Jordan. Industries include clothing and textiles, pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, mining, and refining of petroleum. Most of these industries are based on the natural resources found in Jordan and, although Jordan is naturally low on resources, industrial revenue remains their major source of income.
