John the Baptist the son of Zacharias and Elizabeth. John was also Jesus's second cousin. John struggled with doubt. He was doubting that Jesus really was the Son of God. John knew that the Messiah would be coming, but he was unsure who to look for. John was skeptical of Jesus. John said, "Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?" (New International Version, Matthew 11:3) Jesus' ministry wasn't what John had expected the Messiah's ministry to look like. Even though John was doubtful of who Jesus' really was, Jesus knew the greatness that John had inside of him. Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven
