I hope that you have milk because I sure do, I have got more than enough. Therefore, I so agree with the schools offering these nutritious milk, water, and natural fruit juices. First, nutrients, in order to be healthy we have to keep nutrients in our body’s. Second, some kids are really hyper active and are not able to sit still to save their lives. So without all the sugar from the sodas and candy bars it would help with the kids that are hyper active. Last, yeah sugar may have some good up sides to it, it also has a lot more bad down sides to it instead. One of the really bad things about sugar it that it causes a lot of unnecessary health problems. First of all, I really do like what these schools are offering with the milk, water, natural …show more content…
With all the sugar they cannot focus. Also, without all sugar in our schools and in our systems I really do think that there will be a lot less kids getting in trouble. Due to this given reason up above, if kids have too much sugar it can really cause them to be hyper and if they are really hyper they can be a distraction, to other and if they are being a distraction to others then that means that they are not doing their work and focusing on what is actually important. The sugar is really bad for kids with attention disorders due to the reason that their meds can only help so much. As I have stated, sugar can cause kids to be really hyper active and …show more content…
As well as, sugar being the number on cause for obesity and they can lead to kids being diabetic. Also, sugar can cause cavities, so people like their smile as much as I do then I suggest them to eat the least amount of sugar as possible. Also, people does not really think anything about it, but it will take that beautiful smile right away before they know it. The sugar that comes from sodas is really hard on our livers, stomachs, and kidneys. As well as, for them being diabetic it makes it really hard for them because they have to take their Iselin almost every time they have sugar and the Iselin is not cheap. As has been noted, sugar is really bad for people with health issues and if they do not have any then it may cause
Another contrast between the article How Candy Conquered America and This Cupcake is Trying to Hurt You is how our health is affected by our sugar intake now and back in the 1800’s. According to the article, Too Much Can Make Us Sick (http://www.sugarscience.org/too-much-can-make-us-sick/), “Heart disease”. Diabetes. These chronic conditions are among the leading causes of death worldwide.
There has recently been a debate about whether chocolate milk should be served in the school cafeteria or not. Some people say that it should be served in the cafeteria because chocolate milk is healthy and helps child growth. But, they are wrong. Chocolate milk is definitely not healthy, and it should not be served in the cafeteria. This is why. Chocolate milk shouldn’t be served in the cafeteria because it’s fattening and too sugary, it’s non-beneficial, and it can be harmful.
Jon Gabriel explains how sugar has become an addictive drug like nicotine, the only difference is that its legal. Once we become hooked on it we become habituated to its effects and need more and more to satisfy ourselves. As a result of the increase in marketing and the on going dependence on sugary foods and beverages, children are taking in more and more sugar and obtaining less and less nutrients. According to Gentry Lasater,
Chocolate milk and a cafeteria don't go together like frosting on a cupcake, so don’t put them together. Schools should not serve chocolate milk to students. It’s easy to think that chocolate milk is just as healthy as white milk, but when you look at the facts, it is very clear that we should not serve chocolate milk in schools. It has been found that our bodies don’t need chocolate milk, there is too much sugar, and chocolate milk can cause illnesses and diseases. Chocolate milk should not be served in schools now or ever again.
I think that chocolate milk should be banned from schools because kids know they are not allowed to drink chocolate milk so they take advantage of the fact that they have it at school and drink it too much, chocolate milk makes kids consume too much sugar, and chocolate milk is more unhealthy compared to other drinks.
This doesn’t help kids focus in the classroom for hours after consuming these fatty and sugary foods. The kids will get a sugar high but then crash hours after and won’t be focusing in class but instead, falling asleep during an important lesson. Anita states that, “school cafeterias, of all places, should demonstrate how a healthy, low-fat, well-balanced diet produces healthy, energetic, mentally alert people,” and teaching this at high schools is the best place to change the food because in this generation, kids are becoming overweight and unhealthy because of all the “junk food” they are eating. Teenagers in high school tend to eat more when they are stressed, so if they serve unhealthy foods in the cafeterias then the student will eat the “junk food”, but if the “junk” is switched with fruits, vegetables, and some salads then the students wouldn’t have the sugar high and be focused
You can find sugar in most foods. Everything from salad dressing to canned soup. Even the bread we eat has a high concentration of sugar. All of the sugar that America is intakes is starting to add up. Today two out of three adults and one out of three children in the United States are overweight. These illnesses would be far less prevalent if we dialed back our consumption of sugar. Not to say that sugar is the main reason for diabetes, but it is definitely a determining factor. Eating too much of
Unhealthy foods are what make the money for schools and that is why they serve them for students. (Schlafy) Schools feel like they need the extra money in the budget, even though it is at the student’s expense. Data shows that nearly 60% of all middle schools in the US serve soda from vending machines. (Schlafy) Soda is very high in sugar and is not at all good for children, but it is still sold in school vending machines. The ways food in schools is now are way too high in fats and sugars. This is not good for the children and very bad in the long run. Elementary schoolchildren have an estimated $15 billion of their own money that they can use to buy whatever they want in schools, and parents have almost another $160 billion to give students for food money. (Schlafy) Big businesses see this as a big source of profit and therefore encourage children to buy their products, and want them to be offered in school because of th4e likelihood of children buying the business’s product. All in all, obesity in the US is greatly influenced by the foods offered in schools
You are out for a quiet lunch with your family, the waitress walks over and your 6 year old child asks for a lemonade with their lunch. Sure, you think one glass of soft drink won’t hurt right? Wrong. That one, seemingly innocent glass of lemonade contains a whopping 6 teaspoons of sugar. I doubt that you would let your child eat 6 teaspoons of sugar from a bowl, so why would you allow them to consume it in the form of a sugary soft drink? Sugar is highly addictive, can cause cancer and is causing childhood obesity. The proliferation of sugar in society is causing widespread problems like obesity, type 2 diabetes, cancers, tooth decay and acid wear. Additionally, Rethink Sugary Drink claims that one can of soft drink a day can lead to an annual
Chocolate milk is a worldwide debate of whether it should be served in schools or be an at home treat. Many schools have already gotten rid of chocolate milk but what about Nickels Intermediate school. They should keep chocolate milk to keep kids on a beneficial and healthy diet. To begin with chocolate milk gives kids a nutritional drink. It also improves their diets by giving them a drink that will not later cause obesity. Finally kids enjoy the drink way more than white milk. Read on to explore the greatness of chocolate milk.
She explains that there are two factors leading to childhood obesity. These factors are sugar and the lack of “playing” children do nowadays (April 2014). Sugar appears in almost all tasty treats that kids eat ranging from the obvious soda and sports drinks, to the not so obvious yogurt and milk. Almost everything that children, as well as adults, consume contains sugar (April 2014). Most kids today own some type of electronic device whether it is an iPad, laptop, or kindle. Children are now being discouraged to go outside and are being encouraged to play with these devices (April 2014).
This happens gradually. In Nutrition in Disguise it stated there are thirty grams of sugar in one carton of chocolate milk. This will cause children to not pay attention in class because they are on a sugar rush. This makes me think that children might not fulfill their potential because they aren’t paying attention in class. Kids who should be off inventing cures, making stuff to save life might not complete this because they are on a sugar rush. Even mother of 5, Tara Subeck stated “ Chocolate milk has too much sugar”.
Recently, there has been a federal law change that says schools must provide a drink, whether it is milk or juice, and a larger portion of fruits or vegetables for after-school programs as well as before and during school hours. Milk and juice provide greater nutrient intakes as well as vitamins (4). Milk, in particular, provides a significant amount of calcium and helps build strong bones and teeth. Likewise, larger portions of vegetables and fruits give children vitamins, minerals and fiber that will keep them energized throughout the day (4).
The vending machines which have mostly sodas and chips are also convenient for kids, but they are consuming tremendous amount of sugars that are so unhealthy for their diets. In high schools, their hormones are changing and when they eat or drink foods that are not healthy, their hormones respond to those, by making them hyper, unable to learn and to comprehend subjects better in schools.
For years doctors have been saying that refined sugars are empty calories and consist of absolutely no vitamins or minerals that people need to survive. Dentists warn that sugary foods encourage tooth decay. Many people avoid sweet food because it can lead to obesity, heart problems, diabetes and cancer. These negative responses by people’s bodies are actually warnings. Maybe people eat sugar for other reasons than the sweet taste. The human body's negative responses to sugar may be a similar purpose to the reason kids feel pain when they are playing too roughly. People’s consumption of sweet foods might also serve as a sign of defiance against their bodies’ health limitations. What many people do not realize is that their tasty treats can affect their mind and emotions.
