Informatics-Related Professional Organizations Research Paper

I have chosen to write on the topic of informatics-related professional organizations. I selected the following three organizations to examine; American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), American Telemedicine Association (ATA) and American Nursing Informatics association (ANIA). There are several other professional organizations. It would appear this is an area of great interest to the medical community. The first organization I looked at was the AMIA. According to the organization's website there are currently 5,000 members. This fact appealed to me as the large number of people involved should hopefully correlate to a vast array of information. Also, according to the website it stated that the AMIA holds annual conferences and also has an online learning platform which I think is good! The second organization I viewed was the American Telemedicine Association. The ATA has over 10,000 members according to its website. This organization has a direct focus on telemedicine. This is an area that interests me. I can see it becoming more widespread. People today are used to quick results and information at their fingertips. Telemedicine appears to be a quicker/less expensive alternative to a traditional office visit. The third organization I looked at was the American Nursing Informatics association. One area that telemedicine can be beneficial for is rural areas. According to (Smith,2016) there has been research conducted on how telemedicine can help children with diabetes that live in a rural area. The child's home glucose test readings can be electronially submitted to the Childrens medical research center. The nurse practioner can examine the child and send the findings to the reseaarch center as well. This helps people who have financial and transportion hurdels to seeking care.
