For question number four (When you need to make an important decision, what do you consider before making a decision? Why do you consider these things?) I really liked my answer. I feel like that is the type of person I am always asking for advice. I like when people ask me for advice and vice versa. Even if I had already made my mind about something, I would still ask someone. Depends on the answer I get it can make me change my mind about the decision or not. I think the thing that prompted that answer is because it is who I am and maybe because the way I grew up. I don’t think that just because you ask somebody for advice it is going to stop you from making mistakes, even the person you get the advice from can give you a wrong advice. The most important for me i think is you have to ask yourself if the decision you want to make would make the world a better place. It is important to ask yourself that question because whatever decision you make it can affect somebody. For example, after a night of drinking you decided to drive yourself home and on your way there you hurt somebody. That decision is not only going to affect the victim, it is going to affect the family and friends of the victim, and also you because now you are going to jail because of the decision you made, and it also going to affect. It is important to ask yourself that question before making a decision. While developing his theory, Kant deemed two qualities that are essential for an action to be deemed an ethical. First, he believed it was never acceptable to sacrifice freedom of others to achieve a desired goal. In other words, he believed in equal respect for all humans. Each human has a right for freedom and justice, and if an action takes away the freedom of another, it is no longer ethical or morally correct. Secondly, he held that good will is most important, and that what is good is not determined by the outcome of the situation but by the action made (Johnson, 2008). Kant starts by explaining the three divisions of philosophy which are: physics, ethics, and logic. He clarifies that physics and ethics are a posteriori while logic is, a priori, but there is a third variable that interacts both which is also the foundation of morals. This is the categorical imperative or also known as the synthetic a priori. The categorical imperative or the moral law is the reason of individuals’ actions. Kant goes on to say “I should never except in such a way that I can also will that my maxim should become a universal law” (Immanuel Kant, Page14 (line 407-408)). This indicates that an individual should not do anything that is not their own laws or rules that cannot become universal to all individuals. Kant’s moral law revolves around the individual making decisions out of morality not self-interest, with no environmental factors taken into consideration. The golden rule “do unto others as you have done unto you” is a modern approach on Kant’s idea. It focuses on the individuals reasoning for doing the right thing but incorporates environmental factors. In society today, we do not focus solely on ones-self; making decisions for the good of others is impossible due to religion or family impacting daily decisions. As a nursing student we use a holistic approach in caring for our patients. This looks at the individual and their environmental factors in creating a plan of care while providing the best care. This topic opened my eyes to how society has changed today compared to when Kant was a philosopher. Kant’s categorical imperative can provide a set of rules to formulate what a good person is and should do. Kantian philosophy is deontological and it requires people to always do their duty. Kant does not forbid feeling good or happiness, but it must be the case that each person can fulfill their duty even if they did not enjoy doing it. Along with living our lives by the formulations of the categorical imperative, we should also treat every rational being as an end in itself. It is quite obvious that Kant’s theories are still in existence today.

I have been through so many things in my life and I have made many bad decisions. The best thing with making wrong decisions are learning from them. One of the worst decisions in my life was dropping out of college when I was younger. One day I’m hoping to show people no matter how old your are or what your have been through, you can still go back to school and help people but it first starts with yourself. Deciding to go back to school was hard, but I wanted to make a difference in someone’s life.
