Throughout the history of the United States immigration has become a big part of our country’s fabric which, began centuries ago. Only to become a hot topic in the US in recent years with its primary focus being illegal immigrants. Illegal immigration is when people enter a country without the government’s permission. As on the date of 2008 the Center for Immigration Studies estimated that there are 11 million illegal immigrants in the US which is down from 2007‘s 12.5 million people. The Center for Immigration Studies estimates are very different from other estimates that range from 7 to 20 million, the estimates are bit off due to the fact that, Immigrants have no papers, so the government can’t keep track of them for that reason. Having illegal immigrants in our nation can be detrimental to our society in many ways. The controversial reasons why it’s detrimental are because, it can take a toll on our economy, and we can’t keep track of how many people are in our country. Barack Obama has declared that “immigration reform is an economic imperative”, and is promising to do his best to get an immigration bill pushed through Congress this year. Illegal immigration has been a problem for America, and it It provides the local economy with cost benefits as the illegal immigrants are not paid as much as citizens. On the other hand, these illegal immigrants do not pay taxes, and their employers do not pay taxes as well. Having people in America that do not pay their taxes is not only a crime that effects our economy but it shows the lack of commitment they have to supporting our country. The moral reason why having undocumented immigrants in our nation is bad is because, they aren’t treated with respect, they get manipulated and harassed, this defeats the purpose of “liberty and justice for all” which is stated in the Pledge of
