When you hear certain names what do you think of? When you think of Mcdonalds what do you think of? When you hear the name John who do you think of? I can bet you that that person is an icon. In the 1920’s icons were a big part of life. An icon is a person or symbol that is very familiar to people that are in that area. A few of the icons in the 1920’s were Albert Einstein, Amelia Earhart, Charles Lindbergh, Henry Ford, and many, many others. Icons in the 1920’s were very particular because almost anyone could be an icon. Even someone that did something bad could be an icon. There is a difference between an icon and a role model. Tosunian was a fashion designer who was born on August 19, 1883. Her trademark was suits and little black dresses. Her company, Coco Chanel, created timeless designs that are still very popular today. She herself became a big style icon that was known for her simple yet sophisticated outfits which she paired with great accessories, such as several strands of pearls. As Chanel once said,“luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury.” Many people wanted to be her. She dressed very well, she had a lot of money due to her booming business, she was very pretty and many if not most of the little girls in the town looked up to her. In the modern day there are a lot of very similar icons to those in the 1920s. One of those is Phil Knight. Phil Knight was born on February 24, 1938. Knight ran track at Oregon. He and his coach that he ran under made a decision. The decision was to make better and comfier running shoes. They were very successful. Today everyone knows of the name Nike. Many people own at least one pair of nike tennis shoes. Nike now makes everything from shoes, to clothes, to water bottles, to lanyards, to headbands, to sunglasses. Nike is a very famous and well known brand and icon because of this one
