Human Sexuality: How Do Men and Women Differ?

525 Words2 Pages

The beginning of this short research essay began with the author explaining what the essay will be about. This essay primarily focuses on the differences and similarities of sexuality between men, women, gays, and lesbians. It also focuses on time, because throughout time, human sexuality has changed. New scientific evidence has also helped give new insight to the human mind and their most basic needs.
The first topic that was approached in this essay was sexual desire among men, women, gays, and lesbians. The research concluded that men have more sexual desire than women. Men not only have more sexual desire, but they also have more interest in sex, sex fantasies, and spend more money on sexual products like porn and prostitutes. Another subject that was brought up was that in heterosexual relationships the man in the relationship wants to have more sex, but ultimately has to compromise with their female partner. Lesbian relationships has reported that they have sex less often then in gay or heterosexual relationship, which makes sense since women tend to have a lower sex drive.
The role sexuality plays on relationships is a key component in how men and women think. For women, the definition of sexual desire is to be emotionally intimate and to express love. Men on the other hand view sexual desire as physical pleasure and sexual intercourse. These two definitions are very different from one another and can lead to many disputes on what sexual desire actually means. Those definitions also play into the sexual fantasies of men and women. Women tend to have sexual fantasies that involve a familiar person that has affection and commitment. Men's sexual fantasies have strangers, or multiple people in them and the fantasy focuses on the sexual acts. So to sum it up, women want to have intimacy and commitment, while men want the exact opposite.
The next topic of the essay was how sexuality correlated with aggression. Several tests were given out to both men and women asking them whether they saw themselves as very passionate or not at all, but with the men's test they correlated being passionate with aggression, where as they didn't do that with the women. This test showed that men are more assertive than women in relationships. Men also initiate touching and other sexual things. Rape is considered the extreme link between aggression and sexuality. This being said, there are tendencies in men of showing the wrong kind of aggression in relationships that could lead to rape.
