Human Roles Played By E-Team Members

The Netflix documentary, E-Team, lets us follow members of the Emergencies Team as they travel around the world, investigating and reporting human rights abuses. The job is often dangerous and difficult but the documentary gives a firsthand account of what these people are doing to make the world a better place for many people. The human rights violations that are taking place in Syria are atrocious. Everyday citizens are being murdered and having their bodies burned by the militia for no reason at all, as two groups try to take control of the country. Anna Neistat and her husband Ole Solvang are E-Team members who traveled to Syria to report on these horrific crimes in an attempt for the world to view these crimes as international human rights violations. The couple talked to many villagers about the crimes they had witnessed and compared testimonies to ensure the accounts were accurate. Anna then went back and reported to Russian media via interviews on the events she witnessed and the data she had gathered. She was met with some opposition as some in Russia believed the data and accounts were fake and manufactured. Russian leadership rejects western ideology and the western influence as well as their Arab allies. Our book states that “the liberal belief in the role played by institutions in reducing, if not altogether elimination, the incidence of violent international conflict” (Lawson 43). The group record and publish reports on various media outlets to let the world know of these human rights violations. The thought is that these human rights violations are going against international law which is a liberalism concept.
