Human Behavior is Influenced by Our Environment

537 Words2 Pages

Humans behave in many different ways for many reasons. Behavior can be influenced by environment, values, emotions, or from society in general. Our behavior can change as we grow older for better or for worse. We can control our behavior, but sometimes people don’t care enough about their behavior, and sometimes people care too much. We behave for reactions and our reactions are based off of others behavior. The idea of what is an acceptable behavior changes based on an individual’s opinion, morals, and values.
The internet is an amazing invention. You can use it for research, communication, learning, entertainment, taking an online English class, and other things. The internet can affect our behavior, and our behavior on the internet can affect other people. Communicating on the internet can be a lot different than communicating in public. You can say anything you want anonymously on the internet. The things you say can affect others in positive, such as teaching, or negative ways, such as bullying. Social media has turned into a world of its own where people act completely different than they would in public.
One main form of negative human behavior online is cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is essentially bullying, except it can be done anonymously without the bully even knowing the victim. It can be from adults to children, teens to adults, or from anyone to anyone. People tend to say things they wouldn’t say face to face when cyberbullying. Even someone who is a nice person in public could be a cyberbully online. People cyberbully to intimidate, control, or humiliate another person. The motive for bullying could be anything. People may do it for entertainment, or to feel superior. Cyberbullying could also be the way someone is venting out anger or frustration from issues they are suffering in their own life.
The effects on a victim of cyberbullying can be quite drastic. When someone is harassed from a cyberbully it can be hard to escape them. The bully might stalk them online and harass them on social media or online public forums, humiliating them to peers. This has many emotional effects on the victim including depression, anxiety, anger, and has even caused a few cases of suicide. An example of cyberbullying would be when someone posted photos of themself online, such as Facebook, and someone makes fun of them and calls them ugly and fat intentionally to make the person feel bad.
