How Schools Have Changed Over The Years

Over the years, school has evolved due to technological advances. In previous generations, there was no internet and schools lacked resources, especially those in foreign countries. With the introduction of the internet and other technology, schools have changed dramatically. Still, it is arguable whether the systems have improved or worsened.

Technology has become a large part of modern day work, particularly in schools. As a student, I can’t complete my homework without the internet. I access my textbooks and keep most of my flashcards online. If I don’t understand something, it’s Google instead of people. Obviously, school was very different back in the day. To get a sense of what it was like, I spoke to my mother, who graduated high school in 1992. She went to school in Algeria, so conditions were very different. There

Classrooms were packed, with around thirty to forty students and one teacher. To contain everyone, the school day was split, so occasionally, a group of students attended in the morning and returned a few hours later. After middle school, students also had to decide what they wanted to study and pursue in a career. This obviously put a lot of pressure on them, but entering high school wasn’t any easier. Three standardized tests were given a year, and there was no such thing as multiple choice. That was the “American” way, so good grades were out of the question. Probably the biggest difference from now and then is the introduction of internet and computers. Since schools lacked technology, the only way to get help with homework was by asking friends or family. If students wanted to come after school for help, teachers required them to pay.
