How Music Affected My Life

Music is everywhere. It is nearly, if not completely, impossible to live life without hearing at least one form of music. I have always had a deep interest in music, and as I started to grow up, that interest turned into a love for it. Music has truly impacted my life in so many great ways, and I know that it has helped make me the person I am today. I can’t recall a time music has not been a part of my life. Even when I was just a toddler, my mother tells me stories of me singing and dancing to the sings she played. Some stories I do remember while others are merely memories only she can recall. One story I do remember is of me singing along to a song called ‘Far, Far Away’. It was by a band known as ‘Five Iron Frenzy’, and the chorus was the only part I knew. This memory has never been forgotten. At my graduation party, ‘Far, Far Away’ was played and was stated to be my favorite song as a toddler. As I started to grow up and continue through grade school, fifth grade was the grade in which music truly started to impact my life. It was in this grade that I decided to join band. I was very unsure of what instrument to play. My two choices were flute or percussion. These were very different choices and to this day I question why I chose such opposite instruments as my choice. Finally being able to march in the field in the fall as more than a mere middle schooler was a very anticipated and exciting moment in my life. It required hard work and practice, and I was ready to give it my all. My first year I was given the instrument of bass drum. It was my least favorite instrument to play, but it was just a start.
