I chose Thomas Jefferson because he wrote The Declaration of Independence. He was also the third president of the United States. I would also like to learn more about him. He seems like an interesting guy.Thomas Jefferson was born on the 13 of April, 1743 in Shadwell, a colony of Virginia. He was the third son of ten siblings, six sisters and three brothers. He was English and maybe some Welsh descent. Jefferson was raised by his parents, but when he was fourteen, his father, Peter Jefferson died. He had tutors, before he went to school at age nine. At this age he started studying Latin, Greek, and French. Jefferson then went to William and Mary College when he was sixteen. In 1768 he began building his house called Monticello that took two years to build. In 1770 he moved in. Two years later he married his third cousin, Martha Wayles Skelton. She was a recent widow and was one of the richest women in Virginia. They had six children, but four died. In his political career, he was very supportive of independence from Great Britain. “A Summary View of the Rights of British America” was his first political written work. Jefferson was selected, because he was a good writer, out of five people to write the first draft of The Declaration of Independence, in 1776. Signing The Declaration of Independence made him a founding father. Thomas Jefferson was one of five people appointed by Congress to write The Declaration of Independence. He wrote the first draft in seventeen days. The five person committee made a few changes, then presented it to Congress. One of Jefferson’s biggest accomplishments
