Hitler’s regime to solve Germany’s problems after World War l claimed 11 million lives, including 6 million Jews in the holocaust. He used his power to attack the weak, vulnerable, and innocent. His thirst for power blinded him and the effect that it had on millions of people was tragic. As time went on, people started to realize the devastation that Hitler had caused because he was greedy for power and used it to commit acts of evil. Although in different ways, both authors develop the theme, when power is abused it leads to corruption in a society. This can be seen through the use of characterization, symbolism, and conflict. Jack’s desire for power caused him to commit acts of evil. He caused fear and manipulation so he could gain control over the boys: “ I gave you food, and my hunters will protect you from the beast. Who will join my tribe?”(215). Jack wanted people to join him by saying that he will provide for them food and protection so he could have control over them. When Jack had authority over them, he used them to his advantage by giving them orders while he “sat there like an idol” (213). As the boys started to join Jack's group, Ralph’s assembly broke up and the rules were no longer being followed. This led to the disintegration of their once civilized society into a savaged society.
