Why Psycho is not a Horror Movie Horror, crime and thriller movies are three entirely different genres, but they share some similarities. Crime movies typically focus on a hero and the pursuit of a criminal. In the end, the protagonist solves the crime. On the other hand, horror movies usually focus on the dark side of life. Evil spirits or supernatural powers often creates destruction, but the protagonist defeats them. The end of the film, however, suggests that such forces will likely come back. It is not a spirit, a monster who killed Marion Cranes in ‘psycho.' It is a man who had a bad a strict childhood, bad living situation what turns him into a serial killer. If ‘psycho’ were a horror movie, it would have more violence and bloodshed without any reason. The scariest part of this movie is Norman Bates behavior. There are no supernatural activities in this film. When Norman Bates ends up in jail, there is not any sign that shows he could come back to the world again. That means the suspects is gone for good which makes the Psycho is opposite of a horror movie. The reason I was looking into it because it falls under horror genre of movies. In this film, we can see supernatural activities. When a family(Katie and her boyfriend) moves into suburban tracts home, they start feeling all types of paranormal activity like ghost pops up, stuff goes missing and keeps on repeating the same thing. Later, Katie( the main character) gets possessed by a demon and kills her boyfriend. Horror movies are about violence, killing innocent people for no reason, ghost possessing people and kill them. Even though the protagonist kills it, we see a sign that shows the evil spirit might come back to this world. We see the different incident that happens in Psycho. Norman Bates kills people because of his mental illness. He ends up in jail which is the end of the movie. Psycho has a reasonable explanation for the murders that Norman Bates commits. Therefore Psycho is not like the Paranormal Activity. In this case, it is not a horror
