History is the study of the past, particularly how it relates to humans. It is an umbrella term that relates to past events as well as the memory, discovery, collection, organization, presentation, and interpretation of information about these events. History can also refer to the academic discipline which uses a narrative to examine and analyse a sequence of past events, and objectively determine the patterns of cause and effect that determine them. Historians sometimes debate the nature of history and its usefulness by discussing the study of the discipline as an end in itself and as a way of providing "perspective" on the problems of the present. The value and importance of studying history has been devalued in todays society. Due to the amount of blind spots and blockages in institutions there are a lot of societal groups and social activists to educate the public about the truth that has been hidden by state influenced or non-state influenced institutions. History can be blinded if it is not studied critically. Critical history can open the eyes that has been shut by these state influenced or non-state influenced institutions that have hidden the truth about atrocities that were never shared to the public. In todays society we have access to multiple sources, the most powerful one being the internet, we can search up just about anything. The internet can help us access multiple views when studying history critically. History is something that has happened and is factual, therefore, by knowing these facts, it can help people learn how to progress and advance from not making the same mistakes. Studying history also provides a sense of respect and prime towards a society. History is a relevant topic for individuals and societies to analyze, because it allows them to benefit from previous experiences and advance positively from it. Every society learns from the past and makes adjustments to improve. Logan and Joyce have written these articles to explain that history should be studied critically because of the impact that it can leave on an individual. History can be perceived in many forms and many point of views; however, when history is studied critically the knot that is holding the truth will be untangled.
