I am for the student councils ideas to have an election for "Hero of the month." It will make kids work harder, encourage people to get involved and would recognize the kids who don’t get noticed. First, hero of the month will make kids work harder. It will encourage them to get good grades because they want to get chosen. Second, hero of then month will encourage people to get involved. People will think if they work hard enough they will get chosen. Hero of the month will help encourage people to help others if they are stuck. Generally when you think of a hero, who do you envision? Most likely, you picture a strong and imposeing figure, someone capable of performing in high pressure situations, demonstrating bravery and passion to help his/her fellow man. Those who typically fit that role in society are firefighters, policemen, and soldiers. Those people deserve all the credit and recognition they receive for their courageous acts. However, what about individuals or groups who aren’t necessarily on the “frontlines” physically protecting others and saving lives, but who work extremely hard to improve the lives of others in some way? These everyday people deserve credit as well. After all, to the people they help, these volunteers or activists are heroes. An example of such a group is the Greensboro Four, a few African American college students in the early 1960s who helped change the landscape of segregation in the Jim Crow South.
Through reading about these heroes, kids believe that there are good things that happen to good people. These heroes encourage many kids when they’re young, and provide them with right and wrong. For example, many fairy tales and comic stories show kids the kinds of behaviors that need in order to succeed in life, to improve society, and to overcome hard times. They become their example of healthy adult role models who through hard times and many contractions they were able to react positively and overcome hard times. Heroes prove to them that no matter how much suffering and hardships in the world, there are good people, who always do the right thing and provide us with hope in hard times. Heroes do provide courage for us to overcome emotionally, physically, or spiritually
Camus’ book “The Plague” demonstrates the fight between a community and the bubonic plague. Camus creates a range of characters that deal with the plague in their own individual ways; the only hero among them is Jean Tarrou. Dr. Bernard Rieux comes close to being a hero but he falls short of this by the fact that he is doing his duty as a doctor, which is expected of him. Camus uses Jean Tarrou to speak to the reader on how to heroically deal with death. Jean Tarrou is also used as an example of heroes who get crushed by fate for rebellion.
The Black History Month is a time when the children are taught about the inventions that were mostly done by the black pioneers. During this month, the children are taught on the most basic information regarding he black pioneers but the background information is not taught. Due to the shallowness of the lessons in this month, those taught concerning it carry very little significance of an individual such as Charles Drew having invented the blood plasma. This period is celebrated in the month of February and has been controversial for some time. Most individuals especially from the Black Americans argue that this month should not be celebrated. Award winning actor by the name of Morgan Freeman refers to the Black History Month as ‘ridiculous’. Bearing in mind the facts concerning the Black History Month, it should not be celebrated.
A hero could be anyone. A hero could be an ordinary person who has impacted someone or has inspired a change toward greatness in their life. A hero can be passive or active, famous or ordinary, rich or poor. What gives a hero a distinct similarities to other heroes and distinguish them from non heroes is their ability to influence others that they are extraordinary because of their means to overcome obstacles, defeated adversities, and still manage to be a leader, role model, or an admirable person within society.
Hero. Usually when this word is heard we think of Superman, Batman, Iron man and so on, but in reality what exactly is a hero? Who can be classified as heroic? From my perspective a hero is not only someone who wears a cape, has superhuman strength, wears fancy clothes or someone who saves his lady from the bad guy; however he is someone who stands for strength, bravery, humbleness, justice and equality. I believe a hero is someone who truly intends to make the world a better place for all people. He stands for what he believes in even though he may encounter danger and obstacle. We often watch movies with action heroes fighting for a good cause, but these heroes cause us ignore the real life heroes such as Cesar Chavez and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Cesar Chavez and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr are genuinely the definition of a hero.
Heroes have a certain trait that comes with them. It is called “Kindness” and it’s rare to find in today’s age. There are only a handful of heroes in the world. There is so much conflict in the world, that people aren’t as kind. All it takes is a simple good deed to make a difference. We talk about how we want the world to change, but no one does anything. It is time that people stop sitting on the side lines and step into the game. Stand up to that bullied kid, give the homeless food and water, give animals homes and do some good in the world. Be the hero of your city, state, country or nation. We need more heroes in the world than we do enemies. Always know what you are fighting

For example, “John Adams (1735-1826) was a leader of the American Revolution, and served as the second U.S. president from 1797 to 1801” (John Adams 1). He fits as my hero definition because he saved many lives by signing a treaty with Britain and chose the leader of the continental army. This is one of the many people I can give an example of. In addition, “Veronika Scavacini, an eighth grade student from Reno, Nevada” (TEDx). This is another example of my definition because Veronika brought lifestraws to Africa and in doing that she has saved many lives from disease. A hero is a person that goes out of their normal routine just to help someone out that they don’t even know. They touch one or many peoples lives and really care for them. They sometimes take risks for other people. A hero is someone that is known by many people for their courage and braveness to help out. Florence Nightingale should be known for her kindness for people and hospitals in need. She helped many others even as she was lying in bed ill.
A person can be a hero for saving the life of one or of millions. Heroes are not only real people, but they are also fantasy figures. Children are extremely interested with legendary and fantasy figures because they take on such tasks as: difficult journeys, challenges with dragons, discovering lost treasure, and changing the nature of the world through their singular acts of courage and selflessness. They also endure much resistance, hardship, and danger. Often the hero learns valuable lessons about survival and self-reliance. Not only do heroes teach valuable lessons they give a child a sense of belonging. To a child, a hero is an invincible person who will change the world.
The word hero is a familiar word to most, and many people believe they fully understand that meaning. Quite often, they really do not. Expressing kindness is not a difficult task all it takes is a bit of caring and consideration to do something for the benefit of someone else. As Barron (2002) states, “here’s another way to think about it: A hero does something truly important, regardless of whether anyone ever notices. Heroism, then, is about character. The qualities a person carries down inside” (p. 12).
Our world is filled with great heroes. Unfortunately, in our society, people misconstrue personalities. We tend to think that a person who wears a mask and a cape and has superpowers is a real hero. We forget to recognize regular individuals who put themselves in danger to help others and fight for their rights. The qualities that make a person be a hero are not fame or aptitude. It is how they help their society. Their actions could be as small as standing up against bullying or as big as saving someone’s life. Our world would be nowhere without these heroes who are always helping others and dedicating their lives to make others lives better. When we were kids, we all had that one person we looked up to. Whether it was a princess, a celebrity, a fictional superhero, or a family member, we gave this person the title “hero.” We selected these people to be our heroes because they had specific qualities like bravery, strength, and intelligence, but not all heroes are required to have these qualities. A hero is someone who, based on perspective, can be found almost anywhere because they make sacrifices and do actions for the better of others.
