When you are a child, art is a class in which you are an artist and create a masterpiece every day. A place where you made finger paintings, and hand turkeys for your parents to fawn over and praise you. At this age art is anything you created. As you grow older art is no longer finger-painting hung on the refrigerator but paintings and sculptures behind security systems in a museum. Art is a thing old rich people buy for thousands of dollars and made by artist who died years ago. This perceived concept of art dismisses many other art forms. One of the most disregarded forms of art is graffiti. We categorize graffiti as illegal drawings of uncivilized youths on trains and building walls. A blemish to be covered up and overlooked. Graffiti will always be looked down upon by authority. “There is no elitism or hype, it exhibits on the best walls a town has to offer and nobody is put off by the price of admission (Banksy).Those who have no appreciation for graffiti will never realize its true impact and meaning. I know that I can’t change this, but the opinions of others also can’t change the fact that it is an art form. No matter what form of art you express yourself through whether it be painting, sculpture, or photography. You are telling a story about what you are feeling. Art is a form of self-expression, graffiti artist like to show their feelings through drawing on public spaces so that maybe someone who sees it will understand the message. Art is supposed to invoke emotion in both the artist and the viewer. If you feel happy, sad, empowerment, even anger or disgust at least you felt something. That is all any artist can hope for is that after seeing their work you are now changed and view the world a little
