Why GMOs Are Harmful To The Environment
Genetically modified organisms have had a lot of controversy and criticism for good reason many believe they are good, but they do have some downsides. Roughly 75% of all processed food in grocery stores contain GMOs(“Sen. Donna Nesselbush )and most people don't know what they are and what their negatives are. A Gmo is a genetically modified organism which means it's an organism with its DNA modified or altered in some way through genetic engineering. Genetically modified organisms have had a lot of controversy and criticism for the Good reason their downsides aren't commonly known which is a big problem.

The United States Government's oversight on the use of GMOs is very lax when they should monitor …show more content…

A couple of solutions or alternatives to replace or reduce the use of GMOs and their herbicides are, We could go back to old-fashioned farming like humans have done for the past 10,000 years or so and tend to plants by hand naturally(Radachowsky, Sage) The second solution or alternative could be Since most of our crop yields of Corn, oats, grain, and soy go to animals, we could reduce our meat consumption so we wouldn't need as many GMO crops to feed animals that release methane into the atmosphere and pollute water with their waste and we could replace the GMO crops with natural crops and could help end world hunger. We could grow crops and out of all the crops we could pick the best crops and use their seeds to grow the next plants and repeat that process, then grow those plants and continue to collect their seeds and continue to use their seed to have the best plants that are natural and with the plants that are not very good we could burn some of them and use their nutrients to stop the ground from running out of nutrients very quickly along with using fertilisers. An actual health danger about GMOs is Some GMO foods have had antibiotic features built into them to …show more content…

I think the Third solution is the best solutions because it could be an updated version of the first solution if we used science and modern-day natural farming techniques.I think the second solution is good, but people aren't willing to change unless they are forced to half of most of the time and most people wouldn't be willing to give up meat. The Amount of GMOs/gm crops humans are using today along with the side effects of GM crops is affecting animals, insects and the environment and harming the natural environment and we can go back to farming how we used to, to reverse our negative imprint caused by GM crops and their side effects. If this problem continues and it will cause other problems and add to the current problems that we already have for example, farmers will have to buy more herbicide or buy more stop the stronger weeds so, then farmers will have to up prices on their food to put up with this so, therefore, you will have to pay more money for goods. There will also be the deaths of some insect species and small animal species due to hazards because of the increase of chemicals. Things you can do to prevent this is to buy foods that are GMO-free or all natural food other things you can do is spread awareness to this topic and make it a big and if not get in touch
