Pixar’s short film, “Geri’s Game” is an external portrayal of internal conflict; I am Geri; I am either my own best friend or my own worst enemy. “Geri’s Game” is a nonverbal short film that presents an old man in the park playing a game of chess against himself. The old man keeps making moves and counteractions back and forth against himself. The one side of him begins to beat the other side and becomes the more vicious opponent. Eventually, Geri triumphs over himself until the very last move of the game when the other side of him fights back to conquer the game board. Therefore, this is a very essential topic to express with all people. Some people who watch this film might just see themselves like the character of the old man; there are an abundance of people in this world that recognize themselves as an adversary, it is not uncommon for this to happen. The topic that is realized from this film made me look at other people and analyze how they see themselves. As well as looking to other people to see their feelings, I looked at myself to speculate my perception. I believe that the way the film was presented was effective in a way, but I also believe that they could have addressed being your own friend more than just focusing on being an enemy. Not all people who watch this film will view themselves as an enemy, they see themselves as more of a friend. So consequently they can’t exactly relate the man in the show. Nevertheless those types of people will still perceive the same message, they will just think about it differently than other people.
