She dribbles up the middle, she cuts left, dribbles, shoots, and scores! For Genius Hour I am doing the History of soccer. Genius Hour is a project where you take something you want to learn, or want to learn the history behind it. I am very passionate about soccer, and would love to learn who invented it, how the rules came up to be, how it came to be an olympic sport, and the first tournament created. Soccer was traced back to almost 2,000 years to Ancient China, Greece, Rome, and parts of Central America. These places claimed to have started the sport. But then later England was the first to transition soccer, or spread it across the world. British and many other people around the world mainly know it as the name “Football”. …show more content…

We have already discussed some. This including no tripping, and no hands on ball(1). Many more were introduced later. The first rule introduces was the offsides rule in 1863, but it is different from the rule as we know today. The early rules said that if a attacking player was ahead of the ball, they would be called for offsides. This changed in the the late 1860s, when the FA said that if a player pasted the third-last defender, they would be offsides. After in 1869, goal-kicks were introduced, and in 1872, corner-kicks were introduced. Later in 1878, a referee used a whistle for the first time. In case you didn’t know, a referee is someone who controls the game by giving the right calls and calling the ball out when it is out of bounds. So because referees had a whistle, the penalty, or the “Kick of Death” wasn’t introduced till 1891. So in 1970 world cup Finals, red cards and yellow card were introduced in case a foul was so bad. In 1992, soccer banned goalkeepers from handling the ball with their hands on purpose from a pass back to them. Finally, in 1998, tackling from behind could end up being a red-card
