Bill Gates is not only famous for Microsoft but also for Gates Foundation. Gates Foundation is an organization that has helped millions of people in poor countries with vaccinations. The main objective of Gates Foundation is to save life of people who are suffering diseases that can be cured. Gates Foundation spends almost the same amount of money as World Health Organization. Bill and Melinda Gates started Gates Foundation to help people who are deprived of these facilities. In the short time of its existence, it cured almost a whopping 700,000 people. Bill and Melinda had to use basic principles of business to run the Gates Foundation. The foundation had cooperation among themselves. “Non-profit organizations are organized for a public or mutual benefit other than generating profit owners or investors.” (Tury, n.d). As the organization are also tax exempted. Nonprofit doesn’t entirely mean that organization do not have profit, it just means that the profit is not shared among the owners and shareholders. Most of the organization uses profit to make others judge about the success but in the case of Gates Foundation the success cannot be judged by the amount of profit gained. I believe that the success could be measured by the success rate of goals and objectives set. If a goal is achieved, then the success could be judged. Like one goal could be the amount of lives Gates have saved by distributing free medicines and vaccinations. But after her death in 2004, he changed his priority and decided to donate the stocks to the well-recognized charitable organization. He wanted to do something for others and donated the stocks to Gates Foundation. Buffet said, “Huge fortunes that flow in large part from society should in large part be returned to society.” So, I think the reason for Warren Buffett to give the largest donation is that he wanted to give away something to the society and what better charitable organization than Gates Foundation.
