A problem dealing with human resources is occurring at Food Chain Supermarket. Walter Jackson a black employee who had complained that black employees were being passed over for promotions in favor of white employees who had less experience in the work field related to the job confronted Thomas L. Rutherford the human resource director for Food Chain Supermarket. Rutherford began to investigate the claims Walter Jackson had. The company did not want to deal discriminatory lawsuit. They were several times were well-qualified black employees were not even consider for a promotion. For example Clifford Gemson had plenty of experience managing stores he manage three store before coming here, he ask his district manager and store manager about the promotion, but he was never consider for the promotion. Two white employees with no experience filled the two positions. This situation is an example of improper management from the human resource department, because they are basically allowing the managers to decide who gets the promotion regardless of experience and seniority. Rutherford excuse is that he’s only been in the job for four months, but he should have been aware of this situation. The company needs to let their employees know when they have promotions open and also have some sort system the encourage employee to apply for promotions. The human resource and manager should let employees know what make them unqualified for the promotion. The human resource department should notified what make Walter Jackson and the other three black employee not liable for the promotion, to let them know when a need promotion is avaliable for
