Staying on campus your first year, maybe even your first two should be a must. Students should have the best experience during their first year because that’s the year that determines whether college will make you or break you. According to what I have lived with, A&M’s dormitories are not up to par. There’s lots of mold, many different smells, and AC/heat problems. Not being able to make where you’re living at feel like home can have a big effect on some people. Should A&M spend money to improve existing dorms, or is there a better? I am for A&M spending money to improve their dorm halls because those other options can disadvantage both the school and student. Freshman year is the most important year. This is the year where you start getting a taste of the grown-up life, start to find yourself, and most importantly start connecting with people. They have mold in the showers which make people sick. Not only is mold the problem, but some showers aren’t comfortable to use because most don’t have shower heads or shower curtains. One other problem would be smells. When buildings have been up for many of years they tend to start getting smelly because of old wood, walls, and furniture. Dealing with different unpleasant smells throughout the day and night can be irritating when you’re trying to study or even trying to nap before class. Lastly, the living condition that can be most annoying are problems with the AC/Heat. When its cold outside, the inside of the building gets even colder and vice versa for hot weather; we’ve went weeks with no heat and sometimes no air. This goes back to interrupting study time, however, this condition can make some students go vacate at another dorm hall. Leaving your room just to get AC or heat proves that they’re rooms don’t make them comfortable or feel at
