Tradition: My Family Tradition

Family Tradition Eyes glowing in excitement, body squirming in thrill for the weekend that is about to happen. My mom asks me “Are you all packed and ready to go to the cabin?” I reply anxiously “YES,YES, yes!” Every year on July third, fourth and fifth of July my family gathers at my family’s lake cabins. It is like a huge party only for the Scott’s! My family has property on Mokins Bay on Hayden Lake there is a total of four lake cabins all right next to each other. My dad and his two brother’s each have one for them and their families and then his parents have the biggest one in the middle of all of them. This house is also the best to play hide and seek because it is so big and because they have book cases as doors so its hard to tell if it’s a room or not! As if that is not enough to entertain us all for a while they also have a brick oven for pizza, which is all the Scott’s favorite food! Getting the family together every year for a big three day party is what I look forward to every year. My family is crazy and then when you get us all together it gets worse! I thought this was a tradition I would always enjoy and look forward to. That was until three years ago when we lost both of my grandparents in the same year. With all of my family so struck with grief, none of us even realized the fourth of July was even coming up until the week before. We usually spend months planning this get together. None of us were mentally prepared to have our traditional party without the two who were the life of the party. Driving up to the property I felt an empty inside like something was missing, the whole family felt that way and we all knew what was missing. My cousins and I are pretty close so all five us got together in June and started planning for this tradition to continue because it has been so much fun for us in the past. The adults in our family had no idea what we were planning which was for the best for them. My brother being a firefighter got one of his buddies to call my dad and his brother’s on the fourth of July. His buddy called and said a firework hit a tree near by and that a fire has started now and that they might want to get valuables out of the cabins and help water down the houses.
