Ever since I can remember I wanted to be in the medical field. It started off as an ambulance driver than a predication to now a family nurse practitioner. There are many reasons for me wanting to be all three of these but the one reason that is within all of them is the fact that I would not only get to care for people who are in a vulnerable state but also to have a chance to make an impact on their life. I am lucky that God has showed me that nursing is what I want to do at an early age because now I can put my whole heart into doing something that I know I am supposed to be doing and something that I love. Nursing is something I think you have to fully go in with a whole heart and start each day with a positive mind set. A part of me isn’t for sure where the Lord will lead me as a nurse practitioner but missions have been heavy on my heart lately when I think about my future. No matter where God puts me I am excited to finally be able to use my knowledge and skills that I have been learning and share them with the world. Not only that but I hope to show the love of Christ through my actions and by helping them. Attending the Scott and White school of Nursing here at UMHB would be something I have always dreamed of. This school offers so much that I value and believe in and getting admitted will be just the beginning of God’s plan for my life ahead. With excellent faculty that truly cares about our success and an excellent facility’s I know this is the school for me. “Nurses don’t wait until October to celebrate Make a Difference Day — they make a difference every day”, explains an unknown author. My main source of inspiration to become a nurse comes from an innate desire to help people and care for them in times of need. I am also a person who thrives on being challenged and I always have new goals to achieve, so nursing suits me as few other careers offer as much diversity and learning opportunities so, attending Virginia Commonwealth University is something that has been my desire for the longest. The intentions that I have for when I become a nurse practitioner are to aid and care for the sick, as well as I am able but also to assist doctors and staff as well as I am capable.

All my life, as far back as I can remember I have always found joy in helping others. Whether they were hurt, sad, lost, or scared, I would try whatever I could think of to help them. There was never any question or doubt as to what I wanted to, I have always wanted to be a nurse.
From five years old up, I knew I wanted to be a nurse practitioner. When I was around 13 years old my mom got very sick which had her in and out of the hospital, this only pushed me further in the direction of becoming a nurse practitioner. I would always see nurses in and out of my mom’s room when she was in the hospital, some were nice, others were not. I always tell myself, “You’re going to be one of the nice ones, the one that makes the whole ordeal just a little bit better.” However, to become a nurse practitioner, it takes more than fascination and curiosity; hard work and effort must be put in if there is any hope of succeeding in this field.
When I am older I would love to be a Nurse Practitioner, I enjoy helping people when they are sick and taking care of them. Another reason I want to be a Nurse Practitioner is because my sister is also a Nurse Practitioner.
Leading You to a Healthy Lifestyle: Nurse Practitioners. I have imagined myself in several different careers that have interested me as I've grown up, from styling hair to being a fashion designer, and even a professional singer. Now, even though it is crazy to believe time has flown by so fast, I am at the age where I am deciding what I want to major in. Even though all of those professions I listed above were very interesting, there was one job when I was growing up that I knew would be a stable and interesting profession: a nurse practitioner. I have always been interested in health sciences and seeing as though I was familiar with a doctor’s office/hospital setting due to being born with a birth defect, I felt that nurse practitioner was the most suitable job for me.
Three years ago, I volunteer at the Florida hospital. It was a amazing experience to see how everyone was working together to save lives. Ever since then I wanted to become a registered nurse because of my compassion, and I want to care for people. I like giving advice and emotional support to others. Nursing is my passion in life.

Both my current job and are dream jobs are in the medical field they are very similar yet different. For example, my job now is a certified nursing assistant and my dream job is to become a registered nurse. Both jobs consist of taking guardianship of people providing hands-on work, comfort care, and compassion. It’s been my desire, longing for a nursing career since I was in my primary and secondary school. From a young age, I was drawn to the healthcare field, not because the amount of money doctors, nurses and other health professionals made, but because of the dedication and contentment I saw on their faces helping someone in need. Growing up everyone wanted to become a doctor or a nurse and as a little child being a doctor or a nurse was a profession many parents wanted their child to pursue as a career. Needless to say, I fell into that category because I had high hopes that one day I will become a nurse. However, that dream came to a halt.
I choose to be a Family Nurse Practitioner. In many ways, it has also chosen me. I was twelve years old when I first thought of becoming a nurse. I was spending time with my elderly neighbor who was like a grandmother to me, and she had an accident. She was mortified. I ran over and got something to clean it up and started to wipe up the mess without thinking about it. “We all have accidents,” I said. After she got changed she said, “You were meant to be a nurse. Some day you will be, I just know it.” She passed away later that year and I have never forgotten that moment.
First, I would like to start by stating that my expectation of a nurse is that he or she must be a good communicator, emotionally strong, empathetic, patient and calm, pay attention to detail and have good physical endurance. I feel that I possess these qualities which would make me very successful as nurse in the future.
