Racial Prejudice in America: the Asians The immigration is originally seen as a moving in a foreign country in order to start a new life or improve the way of living by finding new opportunities. However, this integration has always been an issue for the foreign race to the United States. Every races went through a long period of drastic prejudice before earning the right deserved. Immigration is a large aspect of American history. In the book Breaking Through by Francisco Jimenez, we are able to see the struggles of one Hispanic boy immigrating to the United States from Mexico. Many of the people in the community that Francisco lived in didn’t really accept Hispanic people. It was really depressing that he would make friends, go over to their house and their parents wouldn’t let him come over again, simply because he was Hispanic. In Diversity Matters the text states, “Unique stresses created by the process of immigration to another country and discrimination faced in the new country can create psychological distress for many immigrants” (Spradlin 126). During this time in America, there was still a lot of discrimination going on not only with Hispanics, but other minority races like African Americans. This really goes to show how far our country has come over the years. There is still a long way to go, but I think that if people are more educated and aware of the discrimination people face on a daily basis they will be more open-minded. The United States is becoming more open to diversity, but first we will look at the struggles of one Hispanic boy growing up here illegally in Breaking Through.
Immigration has existed around the world for centuries, decades, and included hundreds of cultures. Tired of poverty, a lack of opportunities, unequal treatment, political corruption, and lacking any choice, many decided to emigrate from their country of birth to seek new opportunities and a new and better life in another country, to settle a future for their families, to work hard and earn a place in life. As the nation of the opportunities, land of the dreams, and because of its foundation of a better, more equal world for all, the United States of America has been a point of hope for many of those people. By analyzing primary sources and the secondary sources to back up the information, one could find out about what Chinese, Italians, Swedish, and Vietnamese immigrants have experienced in the United States in different time periods from 1865 to 1990.
Next, Institutional or systemic racism refers to the laws, policies, practices, rules and procedures that operate within organisations, societal structures and the broader community to the advantage of the dominant group or groups and to the detriment and disadvantage of other groups. Institutional racism may be intentional or unintentional. Jim Crowe is a great example of institutional racism. Jim Crow laws were the name of the racist caste system put in place to segregate African Americans, Hispanics and any ethnic minority. Individual Racism- the belief that one’s own race is superior to another (racial prejudice) and behavior that suppresses members of the so called inferior race (racial discrimination). An example of individual racism in the scenario is Ms. Welch's description of how Native Indian children were taken from their communities and placed in schools away from their families. Immigration to a developed country has a lot of problem associated with it. In particular, United States has not been spared of these problems according to many experts (Massey et al. 53). On my view, though there is a positive inclination towards immigration that people tend to overlook. Firstly, there are the cultural differences; many people migrating to this country are from different localities. The ethnical perspective of these people is nearly incompatible. This incompatibility leads to exchange of the aspects of the two cultures hence enrichment of the untied states culture. This is a positive impact to of immigration. It majorly traces back experiences of four immigrant groups which included the Filipino, Japanese, Chinese and Mexican. Ngai talks of the exclusion practices which prevented Asian entry into America and full expression of their citizenship in America. Racism has always been issues within the African American community. My grand parents on both side, mother and father grew up in a harsh time for African American. They experience racism and discrimination at a very young age. My grandmother mother I know little about, and my grandmother do not speak much of him. My grandmother on my mother side does not speak much of father either. My grandmother on my mother side gave birth to 4 children. My grandmother had great qualities about herself, but my mother was not raised in the best environment. My grandmother has never been married. My grandmother was an alcohol who depended on the welfare system to help raise and take care of her children. My grandmother has a 8 grade education. My grandmother had a sister who she was very close to, as a matter fact they stayed next door to each other.

They were blamed for the lack of job opportunities and low pay of jobs and received extremely unfair treatment that labeled them as an inferior race. However, the inter-ethnic tension blinded us from seeing how the immigrants were contributing to our country in positive ways. They not only created economic and social gains for us, but also opened our minds to a whole new way of life and prepared us for the multicultural years to come. With all of the help and modernization that they contributed to our country, the racism and discrimination that the Chinese immigrants received day-in and day-out was not rightly justified or deserved.

Asian Indians immigrated to the USA for business purposes in the 19th century; they were allowed to stay here as a result of changes in immigration laws. With increase in Indian immigrants, Hinduism and Sikhism were expanded in the USA even after an increase in discrimination after 9/11. Asian Indians have found immigration to the America desirable for a long time, but after 1965, new immigration laws made the process easier, resulting in a more diverse religious presence.
