“Growing up means being honest about what you want, need, feel and who you are (Epiphany).” The preceding quote is stating that you control what happens in your life, and who you become. It’s your job to take responsibility for what happens in your life as you get older. One thing that has become clear those of you edging towards graduation is that life is becoming complicated. Adulthood can be scary for many of you. If you aren’t ready, have strength, or skills you won’t make it. Juniors can alleviate fears about 12th grade and beyond by having an understanding of the adult responsibilities they are going to face, and how to prepare for them.

The big thing everyone worries about is how they are going to pay for the college now that they have finally chosen or have in mind. There are two ways to pay for college, scholarships or student loans. Scholarships are helpful they can give you a full ride to the college of your choice or provide a start up. There are some for everything: left-hand people, African American, twins, double jointed, blue eyes, talents, and etc. In an article, it gives you some start up information all about scholarships. It includes, “ To avoid stress and frustration you can create a scholarship search plan by creating a resume of all your list and talents. You can use them to see which scholarships to look for since you have the skill or description to qualify for them. Then it talks about how you should use family, counselors, and teachers to help you search for them so you have help and they have prior knowledge about scholarships. They also have your best interest at heart. Then it goes on to talk about how general scholarship websites plus specific detail of what type of scholarship you need can increase the chances of you finding the scholarship you need. They also recommend searching for local scholarships since you have a better chance of getting them. Ex. Tennessee offers everyone a hope scholarship that pays for your freshman year of college as long as you enrol at least 6 hours in the Fall and spring, have at least 2.75 GPA . Another thing you can do is to try winning scholarship essays that not only help to spark your creativity,but they give colleges the chance to get a feel of what type of person you are. Upon the completion of my high school career I was faced with the sudden realization that I was growing up and on the verge of becoming independent. A few months prior, I had applied to Montana State and received my acceptance letter. The future was before me and my ambitions were truly limitless. It is no secret that the cost of tuition has been increasing since the millennials have arrived. High school graduates try to find themselves after graduating from high school. Some have no idea what they want to do, but those that want to further their education and have a better career will be the successful ones. One of the main reasons why college tuition should be reduced is so that students will not be in debt. Yes, there is FASA but not everyone is eligible for that. Around 20 million American students attend college every year; 12 million of those students seek financial aid in order to pay for their education (Lanza). Education offered to the public should be free. Public universities that once charged themselves to open doors for students are now charging students to open doors for them. Instead of opportunities being given to everyone, universities sell their products “for as much as the market will bear”(Bady). With the fall in public funding it has led to public universities putting the need to educate students on the back burner. Think about this: a straight F student with a family that has a sufficient amount of money. This student gets to go to the best college that their family’s money can buy, which will probably go to waste on partying. Now compare that to a straight A student, living in a too-small temporary place, and no way to pay the bills. This student is everything a college could dream of having, and they actually care about their education. Sadly enough, though, they will never go because how can someone possibly go to college when their family cannot even pay the bills? Considering this scenario, should students in temporary living situations with 3.0 GPAs or higher earn free college tuition? I believe that students in these situations with a 3.0 GPA or above should earn free college tuition. I feel that students willing and determined to excel in their education deserve to have equal, if not more, opportunities than anybody else interested in college, no matter what. Students in temporary living situations have financial problems which cause stress for the students; therefore, if given the chance to earn free college tuition, their stress levels would decrease rapidly.It is astonishing how rare it is for students in a poverty situation to have a 3.0 GPA or above, let alone to go to college. I strongly believe that having college paid for would mean so much to them and be such a great accomplishment and reward.
College stresses a person to use his or her critical thinking skills and it’s key that he or she use it without the cost. Without a person’s critical thinking skills they could not get through every day. Critical thinking is an important tool for humans to master. College works on that skill so that when the students graduate from there, they can use those skills to make more educated and responsible decision.
