The invention of concrete was the key to the success of the Roman civilization because it allowed them to have buildings, aqueducts for transporting water, and roads or bridges that brought in transportation. The buildings that were used in Rome were once made out of the simple volcanic rock and lime to form concrete. Concrete was able to work as a strong paste molding together to form buildings that were needed in Rome. Buildings in Rome that were made out of concrete were homes, coliseums, and even religious houses. In order for other civilizations to function and stay strong they were in need of these type of buildings too. Rome was known for these nicely done ideas, and these ideas were an easy grab for other civilizations to build off of. In Ancient Italy, many aqueducts were built. It was a much easier way to get water and using concrete was practically the only way they were able to have a strongly built aqueduct. Without the aqueducts, many civilizations wouldn’t have fairly clean drinking or bathing water to support the people. The only possible utility used for aqueducts would have been concrete or cement. Because of the Romans brilliant ideas, many other civilizations used that to their advantages into building something that can upgrade their whole area. Water is a source you need to survive, without those aqueducts many areas would struggle from lack of water. When the rise of the Roman Civilization happened the “idea of bridges revolutionized with the arches that were created” (Wise 1). Without bridges the Romans would’ve be able to go far out of their civilization, trade or even fight other civilizations. Romans civilization would’ve been the same, because no other cultures could diffuse into what Rome was. The arch in Rome was one of the most important styles Rome used to build their bridges. This allowed them to have stronger and nicer bridges that would last them longer period of time. For other civilizations to cross into Rome they realized that the bridges they walked across were a major peak within the civilization. When the Rome civilization “fell” many other areas like Asia and Europe began to tackle the plan of making bridges.
