Research Paper John F. Kennedy John F. Kennedy was the youngest person to be elected president and to die president. Kennedy was an extraordinary man born on May 19, 1917 and became president in 1960. He did not know of his inevitable fate three years later in Texas. Kennedy seemed to be a favorite to all of America. Kennedy was a great president who had his own thoughts and ideals which caused him to have enemies that led him to his assassination. John F. Kennedy was born on May 19, 1917 in Brookline, Massachusetts. Kennedy graduated from Harvard University in 1941. In the fall of 1941 Kennedy joined the U.S. Navy and two years later was sent to the South Pacific. (“John F. Kennedy”) He barely escaped death while in the navy. When he was only 29 he ran for congressmen and beat his opponent by nearly double the votes. Congressmen was not enough for Kennedy he later ran for U.S. senate. That fall the Republican presidential candidate, General Dwight D. Eisenhower, carried Massachusetts by 208,000 votes; but Kennedy defeated Lodge by 70,000 votes. (“John F. Kennedy”) The last step was to run for president. Kennedy is famous for being the 35th president and for the works he did as president. For example, one of the events that made John F. Kennedy famous is the Cuban Missile Crisis (“John F. Kennedy”). On October 16, 1962 President Kennedy was informed about a major crisis. On October 16, 1962 the United States Military surveillance pictures of Cuba were taken. After the CIA had studied these pictures they found that there were Russian missile bases in Cuba, just 90 miles of the coast of Florida. This sparked the biggest rivalry between the Soviet Union and USA ("Cuban Missile Crisis”). Kennedy was a remarkable young president who did what he thought was best for the country, but some thought he was the enemy and even wanted him dead. He never lost an election and became Congressmen, Senator, and finally president. He became America’s favorite which upset a few communists within the country like Harvey Lee Oswald who eventually ended Kennedy’s life.

King Arthur felt that by helping the middle class, he would gain the trust of his people, and Kennedy did the same. Alternatively, JFK helped out with Civil Rights. He pulled strings to get Martin Luther King Jr out of jail. This showed tremendous support for African Americans. Not only did he show support for African Americans, he also was involved in the space race competition with Russia. He felt that by beating Russia in the space race, he would make America superior. King Arthur, also believed that England had the potential to be the greatest country in the world. Kennedy was able to put Alan Shepherd in sub-orbital flight. Kennedy's death affected our nation in many ways. People who run, walk, drive, and even work near Dealey Plaza have flashbacks to the day when they witnessed their president being killed on national television (Minutaglio). The image is etched into their brain and every once in awhile it resurfaces. Many think the assassination changed Dallas forever. President Kennedy’s personality left a lasting impression on America. JFK was everything people wanted in a president, he was skillful, his personal appeal was loved by everyone, and his youthfulness, made him such a hard president to replace (Minutaglio). Many presidents were close to the great appeal president Kennedy had like, president Reagan, president Clinton, and even president Obama (History.com Staff).
What is a legacy? Is it strictly a visible, touchable object? A legacy is not just an object that people can see; it can be a dream or an idea. Although his life came to a tragic end, John F. Kennedy was one of the many presidents that served his term of presidency with compassion and dedication, and also, he left behind an unforgettable legacy to live on for the generations to come. His legacy was both an idea and dream that still affects many Americans today, as he led people to believe that he would make peace between countries. “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty” (Kennedy). When he won the election for president in 1961, he would set goals for the United States that would amount to extraordinary events. Also, he would overcome one the most dangerous obstacles that any president has ever encountered.

Some of the challenges were boosting the United States economy by ending a recession and promoting growth in the economy, aiding third world countries by establishing the Peace Corps sending men and women overseas to assist developing countries in meeting their own necessities.
