Educators refer curriculum as an organized framework, which consists details of what children are going to learn, how and when teaching and learning occurs. The terms curriculum and syllabus are widely used and mean different things to British and American writers. As a result of this difference, people are often led to getting them confused as having the same meaning. The meanings of these terms are simple once they are explained clearly, the term “curriculum” refers to the total content that is aimed to be taught within the school or educational system. The term “syllabus” on the other hand, refers to the content of an individual course.

When teachers and parents get together to discuss the children learning and plan ways to achieve their learning outcomes, they create a safe and effective learning environment. Teachers don’t have only one role but dynamic roles, they see themselves in new ways and in different roles numerous times. Long term aka a curriculum map sets out the entire plan for the year ahead, but it is almost like a summary that doesn’t take more than one side of an A4 in length. This type of plan shows what and when the units will be studied in the span of a year. The length of each unit differs, it could be either expressed as hours or numbers of weeks. The plan also includes the titles that is conveyed as a key question, and the theme will focus on planning learning experiences that link between schemes or subject areas. Whereas, the Middle Term Planning sets out the sequence of work that students will be doing for either a half term or a whole term. This plan clearly shows the learning objectives and outcomes of each lesson and how it will be measured. It also demonstrates how the teachers plan to achieve these outcomes and what activities that they will be laying out for the students. The benefits of LTP and MTP is that it’s detailed enough to ensure the child’s progression from the start to the end of the unit. It also allows coordination for anyone who has to take on teaching during the year using this unit. Another benefit is that it includes when and how you plan to teach areas of learning and how you will link them in a way that would keep the students motivated.
