When it comes to Halloween dressing up is fun, but what if someone takes it to the extreme? What happens when someone decides to take things a few steps forward? What happens when someone decides they are going to defame everything you worked so hard for? Pretends to do some things that your best friends, brothers, and sisters have put their lives on the line for. Claims to have done things, or got injured by something someone wouldn’t even dream of. When someone decides to put on a “costume,” the same outfit you happen to call your uniform. Then parades around pretending he/she knows more about your job than you do, then lies to your face when you question them about their duties. Takes advantage of everything you have worked so hard to accomplish. So what are the consequences of someone pretending to have gotten the medals, faking injury to get benefits, and claiming to be a decorated military soldier? This is an issue that has been a hot topic for many years. The presenting …show more content…
Alvarez. Alvarez falsely claimed to have been awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor. While claiming to have been awarded military medals can be up to one year imprisonment on a misdemeanor charge, with the Congressional Medal of Honor it tacks on another three year sentence. He was convicted to three years of probation, had to pay five thousand dollars in fines, along with four hundred and sixteen hours of community service as well as a one hundred dollar special assessment fee. Alvarez went on to appeal his case asking that the case be dismissed due to the fact that it violated his constitutional right of freedom of speech, the courts then argued that false statements where not covered under the first amendment. It was later contended that you can’t pick and choose which false statements can be covered. Alvarez’s appeal was upheld because the court found that his conviction violated his first amendment right to freedom of

I am writing to inform you of my possible contributions to the National Honor Society and my interest in becoming a member. I view myself as a strong minded individual with a strong incentive to learn. Acquiring the ability to learn fast and adapt quickly has enabled me to be a part of a wide range of organizations. My participation and loyalty to the NHS could result in a great strive forward. I could provide more ideas of services to benefit the school and our community. I would also devote a large portion of my free time to the organization and assist in any way possible. Whether that means coming in early in the morning or staying late after school, I would do any means necessary to show my commitment.
Being proud of something can have many different meanings to people, but to me, it means to be honored and to be glad that something happened. I am proud about many things in my life but one thing I am extremely proud of is my induction into the NJHS. NJHS stands for National Junior Honor Society.
People say high school is supposed to be the golden years of your life. I don’t know what else in life is to come; however, my philosophy is to live in the moment and make the life you’re living in the present worthwhile into the future, not only for you but for those who surround you. I live my life participating in our community and getting involved in our school. The activities, and the people I’ve formed relationships with, are what have formed me into the person I have become today. The person I am today is not perfect, but I have learned from the mistakes I’ve made. I think the sense of maturity I have developed throughout my life has given me the determination to be the best person I can be. That being said, I would love to be inducted into the National Honor Society and not only represent our school, but represent our generation to the community not as a “selfie” generation but as a generation, with great potential.
the problem is much more pressing than it has in the past, and both the
As a student in her sophomore year, I am still learning about what I can do and what I want to do. Although I am young, my mother always told me that it is never too early to start thinking about the future, which is why it is an honor to be able to apply for the membership of being part of National Honor Society. I have always loved challenges no matter what the result because nothing is equal to the experience of trying. I take the things I have learned from my past experiences and use them as a guide to help me in the future. I haven't ever once stopped to give up if I encountered an obstacle, but rather embraced it and thought of ways to overcome them.
In the article, “The Truth about Lies and the First Amendment,” the author Ken Paulson writes to illustrate an important point regarding Xavier Alvarez, who was arrested and charged with a criminal offense for lying about being a recipient of the prestigious medal of honor award, and free speech: that the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with its findings that the first amendment also protects Xavier Alvarez’s lies from legal, governmental prosecution.
The National Honor Society is a very prestigious organization that I would love to be a part of. It was an honor to be nominated as a candidate. I am currently a sophomore in high school, and I have always wanted to be a member of the National Honor Society. As I look back over the years and think of the times I have attended the ceremonies and saw all the awards the members received, I recall saying to myself “That’s going to be me one day.”. I asked my teachers about all the requirements that had to be met to be a National Honor Society member and I made it my main goal to meet each and every one.
As a student at Northvale Public School, I have grown up with my older siblings being inducted into an organization called the National Junior Honor Society. I had seen all the hard work and dedication they put into their school work and activities just to get into this society, making me want to be just like them. Then a few weeks ago, I found a note on my desk in homeroom telling me that I had been nominated to be apart of this society. Through citizenship and character, leadership, and service, I intend on being inducted into the society I have heard so much about. Though it will take a lot of effort this school year, being a part of this society is a dream of mine that I will make sure to come true.

I am honored to be among the exemplary students who are being considered to be accepted to National Honor Society. I learned while researching National Honor Society that it calls upon students with outstanding academics and character. Throughout my life I believe I have demonstrated these qualities along with leadership from my participation in school, teams, and clubs.
Modern society is dealing with a health crisis that has been on the rise for years. Ongoing
Retired Supreme Court justice Marie Deschamps attempted to bring more public attention to the issue and to push the CAF to deal with the issue. This is unarguably a serious issue because, as
