I’ve always wondered why a criminal does what they do, or what goes on in their heads while they’re committing a crime. The job I chose is working in the behavioral analysis unit (BAU) with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). I will describe the education required, and also go into detail about how to become a behavioral analyst. I will also explain why I chose this career.
My career is doing behavioral analysis with the BAU. The main thing that I will be doing with my job is studying and analyzing the behavioral patterns and actions of criminals. I will also be developing profiles of criminals, for example, if there was a serial killer, I would develop a criminal profile of what they look like and some of their characteristics, like which of their hands is dominant. It requires a four year degree in any major, which I chose psychology. For my degree I will be going to Florida State University, it is located in Tallahassee, Florida. My job also requires that I, or the person applying for the job, attends a law enforcement academy for three to five months. Another requirement is that I attend a FBI academy. It is also required to be a general, special agent for at least three years before joining the BAU. It is optional to get an advanced degree in your major.
I chose behavioral analysis as my job because I find it interesting why criminals do what they do and what goes into the process of finding the criminals. I also chose this career because i’ve always seen it portrayed on T.V. through shows like Criminal Minds and Castle. On T.V. the actors and actresses make it look really interesting and exciting.
