Essay On Air Climate

Air temperature trends over the African Continent.

Air temperature (i.e. climate change) is one of the controversial topics to a lot of researchers. Mainly around problems related to where it is exposed and what gives rise to it (King’uyu et al., 2000). A lot of information is shown by different researchers and findings, as New et al. (2006) states that there has been less information on daily air temperature patterns. According to King’uyu et al. (2000) ,the research on air temperature reports have indicated that the global mean air and surface temperature has been rising over the last 100 years which shows that the has been a remarkable increase in air temperature patterns. The following discussion highlights some of the important points that were raised by different researchers on varying air temperature patterns in the African continent, the causes and the consequences of the occurring changes. The discussion is structured in the following way: The first paragraph gives a definition of air temperature, the second paragraph gives a clear outline of the varying air temperature patterns, the third paragraph gives the causes of the extreme and unexpected air temperature trends, the fourth paragraph raises the observed consequences, while the last paragraph sums up the conclusion of all the researchers came to.
Burroughs (2003) defines air temperature as the “the temperature indicated by a thermometer exposed to the air in place sheltered from direct solar radiation”.
Collins (2011) stated that there was a remarkable increase in air temperature patterns all over Africa .A rise in a row of dry days were found over Southern Africa in the last decades of the twentieth century (New et al. 2006), where temperatures were not reliab...

...ce tops on the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro will disappear due to the rapid heating and warming up of the air. Lastly, these high air temperature patterns would lead to a loss of habitat to many of the animal species and also a lot of rainfall on the African continent which might not favour some countries as there can be floods.
In conclusion, having looked at all these researches, the findings indicate that there has been an increasing pattern in air temperatures since the beginning of the twentieth century, however, some areas experienced hotter than normal temperatures, which was noticed by the Remote Sensing System and the University of Alabama in Huntsville (Collins, 2011). This increase in air temperature is mainly due to human impacts on climate. These rising air temperature patterns will end up leading to unbearable consequences in the future.
