How did you hear about the Westminster College Honors Program?
I first learned about the Westminster College Honors Program during my campus visit in June of 2015.
Using the Honors website as your guide, discuss what specifically interests you about the Honors Program?
I am interested in Westminster’s Honors Program because I want to take challenging courses where I can learn about various disciplines, such as English, philosophy, politics, and many others, from Westminster’s very best faculty. Westminster’s discussion-based seminars will allow me to pursue my many academic interests while providing me with an exemplary education. The resources, faculty, small class sizes, research opportunities, and sense of community that the Honors Program

While I organize my study space, I also try to refine my study habits. As I pay more attention to how I learn best, I also discover the study skills that allow me to remember information the most effectively. My obsession with details is central to my identity because it permeates all aspects of my life. Whether I’m spending time with friends or studying for finals, I always make sure I plan everything out, sometimes down to the minute. Despite the short-term stress, this organization is soothing because I take comfort in the fact that I know when I need to complete certain tasks. Having this order is important to me because it allows me to enjoy my free time even more. At the same time, I know my obsession with details can be annoying to some, so I try to keep my detailed plans to myself, but I always offer my assistance whenever someone asks for help with organization. I love giving organization advice and helping my peers study because I enjoy sharing the skills that I have developed over the years. My reflective nature about my studying habits and my overall obsession with organization and details has made me a better student, while my excessive planning has given me control within my hectic
The English Honor Society appeals to me in many ways due to the presented opportunity of meeting new people, helping others while advancing my skills in the English language, and reviewing the subject of English Language Arts altogether. I am very intrigued by many of the mentioned ‘activities’ during the introduction meeting. I enjoy watching plays and musicals that relate to both historical and modern literature; they help to give different interpretations of the main themes and ideas found throughout it and also aid the audience to understand and comprehend ambiguous details. I love children and would be ecstatic to respond to their letters to ‘Santa’ as an ‘elf’. I also want to refine my skills that are English-related (such as writing
The CSU Honors Program would overall help me to achieve academically well and would help keep me motivated through my college years. My unique school experiences would bring different ideas to this community and would over all help me be the best CSU student that I can possibly
As a student at Northvale Public School, I have grown up with my older siblings being inducted into an organization called the National Junior Honor Society. I had seen all the hard work and dedication they put into their school work and activities just to get into this society, making me want to be just like them. Then a few weeks ago, I found a note on my desk in homeroom telling me that I had been nominated to be apart of this society. Through citizenship and character, leadership, and service, I intend on being inducted into the society I have heard so much about. Though it will take a lot of effort this school year, being a part of this society is a dream of mine that I will make sure to come true.
Learning that having good time management skills has shown me that I can take my time and accomplish more. When relating this to school, I can honestly say that starting early is the best gift that I can give myself. As a full-time student with a family and a full-time job, my time is a limited resource (Britton & Tesser, 1991 pg.405). When I start early on an assignment, I don't have to rush and if I mess up, I can start over or seek help if necessary. My work schedule doesn’t always agree with my school schedule but for the most part, I try to have all of my school work completed by Thursday. As I'm approaching the last week in this class, I have began to look over the discussion posts first and then I look over the complete section to familiarize myself with the material before I even go to the read section (Chambers, 2015 pg.4). I found that to be especially helpful when I first began this class because the things that I already knew or felt like I knew, I went ahead and did it.
Scheduling and planning are necessary to be successful as a working student. Setting time aside for school assignments is a priority, but it is also important to build in personal time for you, your family, and friends (Blais & Hayes, 2011). S...
It is because of the aforementioned statements that I believe the application of my time management skills in college will allow me to successfully contribute not only to the academic environment of East Carolina University but the overall social climate of the campus as well. However, one trait that is arguably more important to academic success than time management is perseverance. Perseverance and curiosity were key to my academic success in high school and I plan to carry these traits that I have attained, along with many others, to East Carolina University as I continue my academic career. Both of the aforementioned traits allowed for me to flourish in the classroom as I would challenge myself to fully understand and comprehend difficult problems. When faced with a problem that truly challenged me, I would break down the question step by step and work on it until I could say that I understood what to do on a fundamental level. This perseverance and desire to understand what previously perplexed me is the reason that I believe I performed so well in my Advanced Placement
The discussion-based curriculum Honors program offers is one aspect that particularly appeals to me. In high school, I have consistently participated in class discussion, with the teachers and with other students, which has helped me gain a better understanding of the material being
Honored, thrilled and uplifting are just understatements to what this means to me. To be chosen to be an applicant for the National Honors Society (NHS). I am sure that I am doing something right, for me to have the chance to be chosen to prove that I am worth being in NHS. This was a great opportunity, for me to better and further what one may think of me.
The National Honors Society should accept my application for what I can bring to the organization and pass on to other members. Over my years at Springbrook, I learned a few things here and there about how to excel and be the epitomic poster boy for high school; like those who have given this knowledge to me, I wish to spread to others to continue the long running tradition.
The legal form of the Honors Program is a non-profit entity under the University of Nebraska at Kearney, which is a state agency, and files Form 501c3 to allow it tax-exempt status.
The Chaffey Honors Program offers a setting where I can continue my educational development in the rigorous setting that I am use to. The opportunities it provides to its participants are invaluable and, on top of that, this program would help me transfer into a better college. This program encourages serious amounts of volunteer work and a dedication to one's goals and their future in general, which I can greatly appreciate. I spent three years of school dedicating myself to art classes, taking a teacher's assistant position in my last year of high school with my art teacher so I could work on my projects more. I was featured in art shows run by my school in both my junior and my senior year. This love for art led me to join a volunteer group
I am interested in the honors community since I am an honors student myself, I believe that I will be able to provide the most help for those students and be able to share my personal experience and be able to help guide them towards success. In addition, I would like to see the study succeed and I believe that I could help achieve this by encouraging study groups within the hall and set up meeting times for those that are in the same classes to encourage study groups. In addition, since I am already apart of the honors college, I think making sure that the residents are informed with the events that the honors college is putting on is very important, to make sure that this is achieved I would contact the honors college to get a calendar of
With my acceptance into the University Honors Program, my educational experience will undoubtedly be enhanced through various aspects of the Honors Program, one of them being the Thesis/Capstone Project. Over a three year span, I will have the opportunity to delve into deep, complex research about my major and then write a thesis paper of my hypothesis. This process will involve me finding a mentor, most likely a professor within Georgia Southern’s staff. Therefore, I will be making connections through my thesis paper. The Thesis/Capstone Project will also enhance my educational experience by showing potential graduate schools I have went more in depth within the material of my major.
The honors college would provide me opportunities to continue my extra curricular activities in a small group of students like a family. It will satisfy my curiousity to explore learning opportunities outside the class room. Having a personal mentor to schedule the classes will also help me to select the right classes at the right time.
With the honors core curriculum and the special requirement to take additional honor courses, I will be exposed to a multitude of disciplines and encouraged to try courses that I normally wouldn’t have taken. Through unique requirements like presenting a dossier to the dean before graduating VCU, the Honors College truly highlights the importance of going beyond classroom learning and pursuing opportunities for both personal and intellectual growth. Through the Berglund Seminars, I hope to participate in forums and debates where I can discuss meaningful and controversial subjects, like women in Virginia politics and HIV/AIDS, and apply the knowledge I have acquired from my
