Writing has always been a tough task for me throughout my whole life as a student. I’ve always knew that I would become a better writer as I progressed through school. This years English class was definitely an eye opener for me because I learned helpful strategies that will help me succeed as a writer. Throughout the first semester of my English class, I learned how to annotate and break down articles to make it more understandable for me. This semester in English class, we learned how to peer review other classmates articles and learned how to work as a group to write an essay. Annotating articles was something that I was already used to doing since high school, so I had an idea on my approach already. As I proceeded through most of these articles, I learned new strategies such as brainstorming before I had to write down my comments about the article. When I read each paragraph and write down comments about them, it gives me a better understanding of the paragraph so I don’t have to assume or guess. Structuring an essay in that format really doesn’t make you a good writer since all you know how is an intro, body and conclusion. Incorporating my ideas from articles into an essay has also helped me become a better writer because I have more insight on what’s being told. Annotating articles helped me gain better understanding of learning goals number one and three. It helped me by showing different examples on how readers read and the way writers write beyond the university. I’ve learned plenty of new techniques that will help me in the long run in terms of academic writing. It also taught me to be more engaged when i’m reading through the text so it gives me a better understanding on what’s being read. All in all, annotations helped me through the reading and writing process and I think it’ll make me succeed in both
