Based off the trials in each source, “Elephants Can Lend a Helping
Trunk,” the passage from “Elephants Know When They Need a Helping Trunk in a Cooperative Task,” and the video “Elephants Show Cooperation” it is clear that elephants are among some of the highest socially cognitive animals.
In the article, the passage, and the video it states that elephants can recognize when another elephant needs help. The sources also stated that the elephants can agnize what is necessary to thoroughly complete a task. Many elephants worked cooperatively to get bowls of corn, and one pair even found an alternative way to get the food.

Accordingly to the article by Joshua Plotnik, elephants were put through trials where “Two bowls of corn were attached to the table, but the elephants could reach them only by pulling two ends of the rope simultaneously.” This quote states that the elephants were presented with a difficult task , however in order to be successful, they would have to use their advanced social cognition skills to overcome the challenge. In paragraph 3 of the article “Elephants Can Lend a Helping Trunk” Plotnick found that “One elephant would arrive at the table before the other and would wait for the partner to show up before pulling the rope.” This quote demonstrates that the elephants recognized the need for a second elephant to accomplish the task. Plotnik writes “They learned to do this faster than chimpanzee’s.” Chimpanzees are also one of the only animal to have a higher social cognition rating than most.
